We're opening up an office for Base in Austin. If you want to help me solve this whole "Kids no longer play in the streets, guys no longer ask out girls in real life, and we all live in our own little filter bubbles" problem. ...maybe we should work together. Right now I'm looking for an Event Manager. 🚨 So in human-speak (and not job posting jargon), you'll literally help us by: 1️⃣ Creating a template to help us pull off 100+ events and dinners each month. 2️⃣ Help us dream up experiences that are awesome, and unique to Austin. 3️⃣ Actually pull-off the events. Which means choosing great venues, meeting with vendors, sticking to our budget, and most importantly wining and dinning our guests. 4️⃣ Go around to a bunch of restaurants and event venues in the city, and create partnerships with them. 5️⃣ Be the face of Base in Austin. Show up to our events, support our members face-to-face, and get your hands dirty. 6️⃣ Take feedback from our community members, and use it to make our future gatherings better. If this is not you, BUT you know someone who lives in Austin who would be GREAT at this, maybe consider letting them know 😉

As the Event Coordinator for Aanayat, a popular open mic event hosted by Uncut, I had the privilege of overseeing the entire participant management process and ensuring the smooth functioning of the event. This role required a blend of organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to engage an audience effectively. My responsibilities included: Participant Management: I coordinated with performers prior to the event, assisting them with registration, setting performance slots, and providing support to help them prepare. This included offering feedback and guidance to enhance their presentations. Audience Engagement: One of my key roles during the event was to keep the audience engaged while the judges deliberated on their decisions. I crafted interactive segments, facilitated audience participation, and shared anecdotes to maintain an energetic atmosphere. This helped sustain enthusiasm and created a sense of community among attendees. Judging Coordination: I worked closely with the judges, ensuring they had all necessary materials and information to make informed decisions. I managed the flow of the event, keeping everything on schedule while accommodating the needs of both performers and judges. Feedback and Improvement: After the event, I gathered feedback from participants and attendees to identify areas for improvement. This helped us refine future events and enhance the overall experience for everyone involved. Through my experience with Aanayat, I developed strong organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to adapt to unexpected challenges. I am passionate about fostering creative expression and community engagement, and I look forward to applying these skills in future projects and events.

It's #TeamTuesday - Meet the inimitable, wonderful, inspiring (and very funny) Terri-Sian Lugosi! 🗣 Name: Terri-Sian Lugosi (They/Them) 🦺 Job Role: Senior Event Control Manager / Office Assistant ⏰ How long have you been with Select? My first event was Brighton & Hove Pride in 2017 👣 Tell us about your career path. I've been involved with organising events for over 25 years, starting my career on the production side of the industry and fell into the crowd management world after being introduced to Select through mutual friends/event professionals. 💙 What do you love most about what you do? I love the variety of the events that we work on throughout the year, and our team is just wonderful! 🎟 What has been your favourite event to work during your time with Select? On 10/06/18, the streets of London, were transformed into vast rivers of green, white, and violet as 80,000 women and girls marched through the city to mark 100 years of the first British women voting. PROCESSIONS was a moment for celebration and reflection and a living portrait of what it means to be a woman today. 📚 If you could swap roles with anyone else on the team for a day, who would it be and why? I would swap with Peter Smith, as although we work closely with each other, our roles couldn’t be more different… plus I always feel that the more ‘on the ground’ knowledge/experience that someone can have working in Event Control, the better! 🧠 What's a skill or area of expertise you'd like to develop further in the coming year? I'm looking forward to completing my Level 5 in Crowd Safety Management early next year and grabbing any training opportunities that are offered. 📢 If you could give someone who is starting a career in crowd management a snippet of advice, what would it be? It can feel like decisions need to be made instantly when incidents are happening on the ground, but my advice is to take a moment to think, refer to the plan and trust your team.

Why do I love my job as an event coordinator? The field is fascinating to work in. Because each event is unique, it is never dull. This job is not a 9–5 one. You can be flexible with the timing. In order to manage the events, you get to visit various locations, venues, etc. You get to interact with and observe the stars. If you are successful, there is money. You can apply your creative thinking.

Audio Visual Event Production | If You Can Dream It We Can Do It | Conferences, Festivals, Corporate
When we first got the call to handle a small, local event for a city in the Phoenix metro area, we didn’t expect much beyond the usual. It was a simple request, nothing out of the ordinary. But looking back now, that one event set the stage for something much bigger—a long-term partnership that’s reshaped how the city approaches its community events. **The Challenge** At the start, our role was pretty straightforward: handle the production side of a local community event. But as we engaged with their team, it became clear that this wasn’t just about logistics—it was about creating events that fostered community pride and connection. We realized we couldn’t just be “order takers.” We needed to understand their vision and the impact they wanted to make on their community. **Our Approach** We asked deeper questions. What role does this event play in the city’s broader goals? How can we help amplify that impact? Through that process, we became more than just a vendor. We became a partner, working side by side with their planners to create something meaningful. Sometimes, our suggestions led them to spend less on certain areas. Other times, we advised them to invest more where it would have the most impact. It was never about the bottom line—it was about the bigger picture. **The Outcome** Over time, this approach built trust. Today, we’re not just executing their events; we’re involved in their strategic planning. We’ve become a key player in most of the city’s community-focused events. Our role is to help them achieve their vision, not just deliver services. And that’s the kind of partnership we believe in—one built on collaboration, trust, and shared goals. **The Takeaway** This story isn’t unique to just cities. These same principles apply to any event planner or organization looking to create something more than just another event. When you partner with someone who understands your goals and offers solutions that align with your vision, you can create something far more impactful than you ever
