Calling all synchrotron radiation users: Do you need beamtime fast? We have got you covered with our new rolling access model at PETRA III. Advantage of the rolling proposal submission is a shorter time between proposal and beamtime allocation or - if needed - fast scheduling for a specific date. The first rolling access proposal run has successfully received beamtime at the P22 beamline at PETRA III in the last week of June - it took just 65 days from proposal submission until the first measurements at the PETRA III beamline! Submit your proposals now (for P08, P11, P22, P23, and P24 beamlines) and benefit from first measurements at PETRA III in September 2024! The High Resolution Diffraction beamline P08 (surface diffraction) is calling proposals with ROLLING ACCESS. The proposals can be submitted at any point and get reviewed / rated within 3 weeks, and get scheduled within 3~8 weeks from the submission. Our first several proposals are scheduled even in 3 weeks from the submission date. The beamline focuses on X-ray structural analysis on surfaces and interfaces using reflectometry, (grazing incidence) diffraction and scattering, CTR analysis and reciprocal space mapping. It hosts a 6-circle diffractometer for solid surface sample, a Langmuir trough grazing incidence setup for Langmuir trough experiments, and a double crystal deflecting liquid surface diffractometer (LISA, CAU Kiel) for general purpose liquid surface experiments. You can find our capability on https://lnkd.in/gZQY48VW

Matthew Gill will be speaking at GB-RADNEXT (12-13 June, 2024), sharing some of Space Radiation Services experiences helping New #Space companies with #radiation topics, the talk is titled “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀” abstract below: "New Space companies vary in radiation testing approaches. New ventures prioritise rapid deployment and initial operation phases to secure further funding, while mature companies face customer demands for some level of radiation risk mitigation without the full cost of a 'rad hard' approach. There is frustration over the high costs, resource demands, and lack of clear guidelines for short-term missions or less intensive testing options. Companies seek affordable, fast testing facilities with broad capabilities, favoring local options. Future desires include easier access to heavy ion testing, guidance for companies with higher radiation risk tolerance, and standards for both board level and alternative testing methods." 📝 The workshop is free and you can register at: https://lnkd.in/e65z9Yf3 RADNEXT is a European infrastructure project with the objective of creating a network of facilities and related irradiation methodology for responding to the emerging needs of electronics component and system irradiation; as well as combining different irradiation and simulation techniques for optimizing the radiation hardness assurance for systems, focusing on the related risk assessment.

Let's slice open some more diatoms! This time we got some *significantly* bigger diatoms to cross section in the Focused Ion Beam. We are live now! https://lnkd.in/gU_v5Vzn? Horizontal field of view of this image is 150µM.

The Keplerian and Galilean beam expander design is one way of classifying laser beam expanders. The Keplerian beam expander design involves a positive lens pair with focal positions coincident with each other and the Galilean beam expander design makes use of a negative and a positive lens pair with their focal position coincident with each other. They can also be classified based on the viewing angle, whether the magnification is fixed or varying. https://buff.ly/3CbkP42 #optics #photonics #beamexpander #laser

3wThe first rolling access beamtime at PETRA III is performed by the team led by Hajo Elmers and Olena Fedchenko from the University of Mainz who studied the circular dichroism and band structure of altermagnetic hematite films using ToF momentum microscopy at the P22 beamline at PETRA III on the last week of June! Congratulations to everyone involved! 🙂
