Insights from having 2 different dogs When having multiple dogs in a home there will always be system in placed among themselves within their boundaries of the house rules . Riley is a retired working ranch dog trained in scentwork to manage property and chase out/alert to vermin in the area. Charlie is a house pet only trained in basic obedience. Charlie likes to join in on my scentwork training sessions with Riley. Although I haven't taught Charlie any of the commands he picked up behaviors that mirror Riley. Charlie learned how to herd from being around Riley . Charlie even helped Riley herd an armadillo out of the yard with no training on how to do so. Amusing to watch play out since armadillos are the same size as Charlie. Charlie is a pomeranian chihuahua mix, nothing in his breed history or traits is a natural tendency to herd anything. Riley is a Beauceron also known as French Shepherd. Being in an environment where the primary focus is to have a dog that can work my property. Charlie learned to enjoy going out to do property runs and help Riley with herding vermin out of the property when he is brave enough to do it. Environments are very influential. When setting up a culture of valuing each person's contribution to the team. Everything will begin to flow naturally and easily through all challenges. Having a stable environment is a huge factor in fostering and nurturing new talent and perspectives. Innovation and Growth becomes your biggest success. Everything else will follow suit. As a lifelong hunter, I've learned that teamwork is essential to success. This picture perfectly illustrates that point - just look at these dogs! They were bred to hunt centuries ago and still rely on each other to get the job done. Whether you hunt with a single pointer or a pack of them, training and nurturing is key. These dogs will run all day to please their owners, and it takes a lot of work to get them to point, and retrieve.
