We have reached a demand cliff in #highered. Addressing the declining demand has led institutions to establish #branchcampuses and #satellitecampuses. Peter Stokes, managing director in our Education & Research business, anticipates this expansion will continue in regions with growing populations and rising student demand. Enrollment and net tuition growth will be key factors that impact institutions' decisions. Explore Peter’s insights further in the The Washington Post: https://bit.ly/3HcLKin

Scholar Voice Project Lead Akron Public Schools/Founder - DM Whits Curator of Good Thoughts, LLC/Youth Voice Expert/Community Organizer/ Workshop Facilitator/Curriculum Developer
AKRON- Coming together as a community, the Citizen Committee Akron Public Schools launched the first campaign in 12 years to build a new North High School and invest in Akron Student’s futures. The levy would be an investment by property owners of $3.63 per month on a $100,000 home assessed valuation for a new North High School and $22 per month on a $100,000 home assessed valuation for school operating costs. Assessed valuation of a home is 35% of the appraised value of a property. “The need for this levy is imminent, and it’s bigger than any one individual or group,” the Lebron James Foundation said in a statement. “It’s about every current Akron Public School student and the generations of students to come after them. It’s about our future as a school district, and ultimately the responsibility we all share to ensure every single child has an opportunity to succeed. That’s why we’re coming together as a community to do something bigger together.” Over 87% of Akron Public School students graduate in four years and 84% of the 2023 graduating class reported they had a job, went on to higher education or joined the military within six months of graduation. Kansas State University is routinely recognized for providing one of the best student experiences in the nation, and today was just another example why. In between meetings this week at K-State, I had the opportunity to watch a small part of freshman orientation for the Kansas State University College of Business. Dean Kevin Gwinner did an amazing job talking about the strength of K-State and the college, the opportunities that exist for students, and why K-State was the right choice for parents and students alike. Today also reminded me why so many of us are drawn to higher education: the learners. It also reminded me why the mission of land-grant universities is so important: the people. Yes, universities accomplish their land-grant mission through research and engagement/service/Extension. But universities are nothing without students and learners. And as society evolves, so do the needs and wants of students – who are both traditional students and learners of all types who are seeking to improve their skills, themselves, and their lives. I can say from firsthand experience that K-State is doing this in spades and more, and there is much more to come as the university continues to implement the Next-Gen K-State strategic plan we were honored to help develop. Today was just another example of how and why. Go Cats! Richard Linton, Jesse Perez Mendez

Upon learning of the demise of Wells College, someone from Elon University commented that "it is not necessarily a bad thing". It most certainly is a bad thing for the students directly impacted by this and the faculty and administrators who are about to lose their jobs. One of the things that has always bothered me about working in higher education is the lack of empathy or understanding when something bad happens to another college or university. So much for collegiality. #globalthoughts #intled #intleducation #internationaleducation #highereducation #highered https://lnkd.in/ePAeMThK

📚✨ Education for All: The Path Forward in Massachusetts ✨📚 🎓 I know first-hand the impact of a debt-free education and highly supportive educators. I am excited to share a new op-ed co-authored with MA Senator Jake Oliveira that spotlights the pressing need for broader access to higher education in Massachusetts. Amidst challenges like the Supreme Court’s recent decisions and the overwhelming burden of student debt, Massachusetts shines with initiatives like MassReconnect and the Tomorrow’s Teachers Scholarship Program. 🚀 With universal tuition-free community college on the Senate's agenda, the vision is clear: make higher education equitable and entirely debt-free, invest in comprehensive student support services and modern learning facilities, and hire diverse teachers to ensure we maintain our status as a leader in educational excellence. #PASSHE redesign starts by being more affordable to students (great that even a few years of tuition freezes get this across to the market -- though revenue freezes are very difficult to endure); then comes the work of restructuring and sharing resources as a system; then utilizing what #studentsuccess has taught us to raise degree attainment. Daniel Greenstein and his colleagues across the system bring together financial planning, culture planning and community-wide buy-in, and student success to get a map for systems change started. He's careful not to over-promise, but this is the integrated thinking that state systems -- and the sector -- need.
