The application for the Engaging Neighborhoods, Organizations, Unions, Governments, and Households (ENOUGH) Grant requires us to write about the school community we will be serving. While doing research on the school site which is located in Greenbelt, Maryland, I came across this chart below showing the reading and math proficiency of the school in comparison to the District and the state of Maryland. As evident, the reading and math proficiency data is eye-opening. The school, serving 99% Black and Latino children, faces a clear opportunity gap, reflecting structural racism. Governor Moore's dedication to bridging this gap through the ENOUGH Grant sparks hope for a transformative change in these numbers. #EducationEquity #ENOUGHGrant #StructuralRacism #OpportunityGap #MarylandEducation

Salma Hussein, LICSW great article! One thing that resonates with me is the emphasis on building strong relationships within the school community. The idea that genuine connections between students, families, and staff are fundamental to creating a thriving educational environment underscores the importance of empathy, communication, and trust. This approach not only fosters a sense of belonging but also lays the groundwork for academic and personal success, highlighting the transformative power of a supportive community in education. UpLiFT Movement check this out!

This an interesting article about resegregation in schools, especially disparities in representation in gifted and AP programs over time. I’ve noticed a similar pattern in my area of families following the reallocation of resources to private and charter schools. My only critique of this article is of the sentiment that “their children had been given something they might not deserve.” when all children deserve a quality education. The answer isn’t to try to reallocate privileges but to expand them to encompass more children. https://lnkd.in/g-35vgnE

The NFL's big, season-ending game is expected to generate $1.1 BILLION for the region. We want to raise at least $5000 in the next week to support our scholars and school. Nevada ranks in the bottom 10% for school funding. This is reflected in student achievement throughout the state; Nevada consistently ranks as one of the lowest performing states. As a second year, independent public charter, we just had to make hard choices with budget cuts, budget cuts that impact students. We need more to be able to do more. Sage Collegiate is focused on literacy and social emotional wellness. In a region where just 40% of students read on grade level, we aim to have 100% of our students read at/above grade level. In a town in the top 10 for homicides nationwide and is in the top spot for human and sex trafficking, we aim to provide an education that puts children on a trajectory to get to and through college and have a life of opportunity. Gambling built Las Vegas. Go all in and bet on Sage Collegiate this weekend. https://lnkd.in/ggTTkqGw 🏈 🏈 🏈 #betonSageCollegiate #betonpubliceducation #betonstudents

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Democrats in the Legislature killed the Invest in Kids scholarship program last year, blocking money for more than 9,000 low-income students to escape failing public schools. Now comes the second wave of destruction as the schools that welcomed the scholarship students are beginning to close. Schools like these are often the best chance for low-income families to escape rotten union schools. At Berwyn North, the neighborhood where St. Odilo school is located, 30.8% of students in third through eighth grade are proficient in reading and 18.5% in math. In the Cicero school district, 18.1% of third through eighth graders are proficient in reading and 9.8% in math. Parents will now have to send children back to these failure factories. The point to understand is that this is exactly what the Chicago Teachers Union and their Democratic front men intended in killing the Invest in Kids program. #Schools #FailureIsTheOption

Not what I planned on posting about today but... 4 years after changing the school names that honored Confederate leaders, the Shenandoah County school board voted to change them back. Mountain View High School and Honey Run Elementary School will return to be known as - Stonewall Jackson High School and Ashby-Lee Elementary School. 3 men who fought to protect the institution of slavery in the United States. And it will cost the school district approximately $300,000 to make the changes. In 1860-61 South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, and Texas all presented "declaration of causes" for their secession from the United States and formation of the Confederacy. All included statements regarding slavery, including this one from Mississippi: "Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery—the greatest material interest of the world." The State of Texas complained against the northern states: "They have encouraged and assisted thousands of our slaves to leave their homes; and those who remain, have been incited by emissaries, books, and pictures to servile insurrection." This is only one county, in one state - we shouldn't generalize this as being a representation of the entire country - BUT, we shouldn't underestimate it's representation either. Open your eyes. #humanity #challengethestatusquo #ethicalleadership #slavery
