Absolutely love this from Involve and Demos : a detailed (and costed!) plan for the new Government to make public participation a core part of the five missions and wider policy-making. Really great to see a paper get into the nitty-gritty of this. I doubt the authors are expecting it to be embraced in its entirety or rapidly by a Government that is still in thrall to top-down deliverism but it puts down a strong marker. At the very least, the first recommendation to establish Citizens’ Panels to feed into the mission Boards feels like a no-brainer to me. It would inject some democratic energy into the mission-led approach which, for all the fanfare, feels like a very technocratic and Whitehall-centric response to much deeper dysfunction throughout the state and public sector. #Sunset! Thx to our policy makers who stated today that they want to find comprehensive solutions to our future fiscal cliff without putting more pressures on NJ’s job creators. Affordability and regional competitiveness are real factors in decision making. Driving down CBT drives other economic stimulus that can economically benefit NJ. We will continue to bring the data that shows this!

Des Moines, IA: On March 6, 2024 local leaders from across Iowa will gather together in Des Moines to connect with legislators, discuss legislative priorities, and share their stories. Speakers representing the cities of Cedar Rapids, Atlantic, Bettendorf, and Seymour will join Monte Wyatt of AddingZEROS and Scott Raecker of the Robert D. and BIllie Ray Center at Drake University to converse on how cities can best support Iowans and plan for the future. Immediately following will be a press conference at the State Capitol. “More than 80% of Iowans live in cities. Cities play a critical role in providing and investing in services that impact the daily lives of Iowans including jobs, medical facilities, parks and residences they call home. We need collaboration from the State to support Home Rule, our ability to meet local needs locally, and plan for the future of our incredible Iowa municipalities.” - Ashley Vanorny, League President and Cedar Rapids Council Member How can Iowa serve and support its cities, from communities of 500 people to 200,000? With 940 cities in Iowa of different sizes and conditions, it can be difficult to craft legislation that lifts up all Iowans. Three commonalities the League has heard are: (1) provide fiscal predictability so cities can make longer-term plans to support their citizens; (2) support efficient governance by allowing space for collaboration and innovation; and (3) protect the freedoms to align local decisions with local democracy. PLEASE HELP!!!!! Friends, family, colleagues, associates, and fellow humans… As many of you know, on 06/12/20 our beautiful son, Tristan, forever “almost 11”, was tragically killed at a BBQ celebration of his Dad’s birthday and his last day of 4th grade, when he was struck by a passing driver after having purchased ice cream from an ice cream truck. It has been 4 empty years without his glowing light in our lives. In 2021 CT passed a law which mandates that ice cream trucks be equipped with certain safety equipment, such as are on school busses (flashing lights, stop sign, etc), and further requires driver’s passing an ice cream truck with it’s lights on to STOP, and if safe, pass the ice cream truck at  o more than 5 mph. The cost is minimal—MINIMAL!!!  And,the law does not interfere with the flow of traffic or require that vehicles remain stopped if it is safe to pass. CT is now one of only 4 states to have such a law.  On 05/24/24 Senator Blumenthal RE-introduced a Federal bill, S. 4452 which acts to incentivize states, by allocating to them a portion of designated Federal funds that are earmarked for traffic safety, if a state enacts a law such as what we have in Connecticut. This law was introduced in 2021 and went no where because voters did not reach out to their senators/ representatives and express their support.  Without YOU, S. 4452 will get no further this legislative session and will die again. I NEED YOU! I NEED YOUR FRIENDS, LOVED ONES, ASSOCIATES, ETC! I am begging and pleading with all of you to take just a moment and contact your Federal State Senator/ Representative and ask them to CO-SPONSOR Senate Bill 4452 . I have attached a link at the bottom of this email that allows you to put in your address and will then provide you your legislator’s contact information. Just a call, or Just an email. Just a few moments out of your life. Please. It takes an army.  Please help me build the army.  Without your support, this bill will die, just as it did when it was originally introduced in 2021. https://lnkd.in/ebW_fNqz
