Experienced Recruiter | Specialising in Mining & Construction Talent Acquisition | Building Strong Teams for Industry Leaders
The 'Perfect Fit' in Mining and Construction Hiring is Limiting Your Talent Pool Consider your candidates for mining and construction roles: 1. They may not have the exact industry background you expect. 2. Their educational paths could be unconventional. 3. They might lack specific site or equipment experience. 4. Their project history might not match your expectations. 5. And their previous company sizes or project scales might not align perfectly. But here's the insight: that's often perfectly fine. 😆 Just because someone has done it before, doesn't automatically make them the best fit. It also doesn't necessarily translate to immediate job success or easy integration. It doesn't necessarily mean a shorter ramp-up period or a lower risk of underperformance. It's like buying a pre-solved puzzle. Looks impressive at first... but where’s the challenge and growth? Struggling to build that strong candidate pool, try changing up your check list... #growyourtalentpool #candidategrowth #candidatecare #careeropportunties

Executive Search - Mining - Board / Management / Technical | Helping companies with their difficult vacancies -🎙Host of the Dig Deep The Mining Podcast
Want to know what the most forward-thinking and ambitious mining companies are doing to attract scarce mining talent? You might not like the answer. They aren’t. Or, to put it more usefully: They have moved beyond just looking for scarce mining talent. Instead, they are recruiting people from related industries. Such hires, especially those in senior or established roles, bring a cross-pollination of ideas, break up the status quo, and overcome the crippling “We’ve always done it that way” syndrome. YES, they need to have some transferable skills. They’re looking at people with experience in refineries or civil engineering, not an HR consultant. Here’s the thing: it’s entirely possible to find someone who has… ✅ a track record of learning new skills ✅ a proven ability to master them quickly ✅ the capability to apply those skills once mastered People with the right attitude towards… ✅ work, ✅ leadership, ✅ and people management, which underpin successful projects in mining. What’s your view on this? 🔸 Have you worked with someone who cross-trained into mining? Did they bring a different outlook? 🔹 Have you joined mining from another industry? What do you think gives you an edge? 🔸 Do you think it’s a terrible idea? Why? #MiningIndustry #TalentAcquisition #ExecutiveSearch #MiningJobs

As outlined yesterday, Discovery Group have had a few tweaks made to the posts we put out. From here, we will try and make our posts about #newopportunities less wordy and will focus on one position at a time. Getting these assignments on is never easy and shining a spotlight on the exclusive and senior roles we are representing seems the best thing to do. It also gives them ample chance to stand out. With that said, I'd like to introduce our newest assignment for an ambitious, cashed up junior in the #criticalminerals space in #Australia... Soon, this #opportunity will also be posted on discoverygr.com #CTO #technical #exploration #greenfields #brownfields #executive #mining #critical #hiring #jobs #miningopportunity #discovery

How did this Colombian mine attract senior executive talent for a major expansion project? 💡A smarter talent acquisition strategy The $280m expansion project included a new underground mine and ore processing plant. They needed to source: Candidates with international mining experience ↳ For 15 project-critical management roles 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝘁: -- Partnered with a recruitment firm with extensive local and global networks -- Requested a shortlist of skilled talent from within Colombia and internationally for key roles -- Delegated all pre-employment checks, scheduled interviews and medicals to the recruiter -- Asked the agency to work directly with the onsite team to onboard successful candidates 👷🏽This took the pressure off both the head office and the local recruitment team. It reduced their project burden during the ramp-up phase. And gave them confidence they had the right people in place to take the project forward. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 Maíra Rosso, Globe 24-7 Regional Manager – Latin America, says they had worked with the Colombian team at this mining company for years, sourcing local candidates for technical roles at one of their remote mine sites. “They trusted that we could easily find people in Colombia—and other countries—who would have the technical expertise and be the right cultural fit for the new project,” explains Maira. “When it was given the green light, we had a good understanding of who they wanted and when they needed to be onsite to hit the ground running.” Today, with a highly experienced Project Manager and technical team at the helm, this gold producer is one step closer to meeting their targets and developing a world-class mine. 🚀 Solving Diversity in the Mining Industry and Improving Mine Worker Conditions 🚀 As I embark on the next chapter of my career, I am committed to making a meaningful impact in the mining industry by addressing two critical issues: improving mine workers' pay, health, safety, and working conditions, and enhancing diversity within the industry. 🔍 Background: My journey in mining began with a passion for solving complex technical problems. With a Bachelor's and Master's in Mining Engineering from New Mexico Tech, I focused on worker health and safety, resulting in two publications: "New Method of Mine Ventilation Data Analysis" and "Miner Injuries in US Copper Mining 2010-2019." However, my experience in the field has shown me that the major challenges we face are not just technical but deeply social. 🌍 The Challenge: The mining industry's social license to operate is at risk, especially as the world grapples with climate change and a growing population. Improving mine workers' conditions and promoting diversity are not just ethical imperatives but also critical for the industry's sustainability. 🔧 My Plan: -Build Coalitions and Allies: I will work to bring together diverse stakeholders to champion diversity and inclusion in mining. -Improve Working Conditions: Focus on enhancing pay, health, and safety for miners. -Organize Allies and Stakeholders: Foster collaboration among industry players to drive meaningful change. -Gain Influence: Leverage voting shares in mining companies to advocate for these crucial changes. I'm excited about this journey and the opportunity to make a positive impact. If you share my passion for creating a more equitable and sustainable mining industry, let's connect and collaborate! #MiningIndustry #WorkerSafetyInMining #DiversityAndInclusionInMining #SustainableMining #CareerGoalsInMining
