*Internal Moot Championships 2024 Workshop: Day 1* The Simple Do's and Don'ts With each attendee listening intently while jotting down every little golden nugget of advice they received, clear emphasis was placed on a few important but overlooked areas. The key tips and tricks shared included maintaining eye contact, summarising points succinctly, expanding on points if time permits, and avoiding fillers like "mmms" and "ahhs", making relevant references to authorities, concluding with a summary, and including a prayer for relief were emphasised. Azim also advised speaking politely to the tribunal, engaging with opponents' arguments, and addressing points directly to save time. After the said advice, the first day of the Internal Moot Championships 2024 Workshop concluded. Each mooter left more informed and prepared to handle the stress that comes with the competition. It is no doubt that ABD Azim Bin ABD Razak's expert insights provided aspiring mooters with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in competitions. As they prepare for the next day's workshop, participants are well on their way to becoming confident and competent advocates. Read the full story @ https://lnkd.in/gjgxHG-q

I believe SAFA should employ referees on a full time basis so that they are able to professionalize the profession of the referees because they are working on a part time basis, I think that is far more urgent than VAR and that will help improve the standard of referees in the country. Courses and workshops for club owners are urgently needed in the country if we plan on growing football holistically because all other stakeholders are required to have certain qualifications but the owners have not been inducted into the profession of being a club owner.

My 2021 thesis for my master at ISDE, analysing competition issues in a case involving the International Skating Union (General Court) is looking prescient given the CJEU’s recent Super League judgment. I explored potential implications it could have for breakaway leagues in light of GC's opinion on authorization rules and penalties limiting access to sporting events markets. Some key dimensions arose again: ✅ Authorization criteria for new competitions ✅ Maintaining sporting merit via promotion/relegation ✅ Proportionality of penalties on athletes Remarkably, the CJEU judgment touched on all these aspects I had highlighted: ⚽️ Sporting bodies must have defined, objective standards for approving events ⚽️ As I suggested, requirements on promotion/relegation could be permissible to preserve competitive balance ⚽️ Penalties like lifetime bans went beyond what's necessary to achieve legislative aims The Dialogue around reforming the European sporting model to adapt to commercialisation continues. My analysis aimed to encourage constructive discussion, which this case will certainly prompt!

Assistant Athletics Director of Communications and Operations at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore
Following along with the ongoing NCAA Convention panels and sessions, there are some invaluable lessons to gained. From the NIL session hosted Thursday afternoon with a handful of current and former collegiate student-athletes that have participated in NIL opportunities, I have a few takeaways: • Student-athletes can and should review the available applications to find opportunities in NIL marketplaces, and not shy away from spreading their profile and brand across a multitude of these applications. • Understand the contracts and deals you are pursuing, particularly in differentiating exclusive and non-exclusive deals and partnerships. • There is a need to dispel the myth of the get rich quick idea of NIL deals when the deals can be the difference between continuing education while competing as a student-athlete. An NIL deal for athletes can be the matter of being able to pay for books or “ordering queso at Chipotle.” • For student-athletes, NIL deals can expand beyond the immediacy of a financial benefit while still enrolled in school. There are additional opportunities to establish connections following the completion of a degree. I highly recommend giving this session a listen, but also checking out the additional sessions on the NCAA's page below: #ncaa #nameimagelikeness #collegesports #sports

Interesting one to read on the restriction by object definition in sports law cases in the EU #CompetitionLaw #SportsLaw If it’s in the #JECLAP it’s good!
Assistant Professor | Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition | former Emile Noël Fellow at NYU School of Law | former Fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences
For those interested in the intersection between EU Competition Law and Sport, check out my recent Article 'Object Restrictions in Sports after the ECJ’s Decisions in ISU and Superleague' published in the Journal of European Competition Law and Practice (JECLAP). It sheds light on the notion of an object restriction after the Court of Justice of the European Union's decisions in ISU (Case C-125/21 P) and Superleague (Case C-333/21). Special thanks to Pablo Ibáñez Colomo for his valuable feedback on drafts of this piece! The article is available open access. Happy to hear your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/eZdkK2xK #JECLAP #ISU #Superleague
