🚧 Directional Boring and Hydro Excavation in San Diego for Electrical Panel Upgrade 🚧 Our team recently completed a project in San Diego using hydro excavation, utility potholing, and directional boring to prepare for an electrical panel upgrade. This job required careful handling around existing underground utilities to ensure safety and accuracy. In the video, we use a hydro vac truck. Hydro excavation is ideal for this task, as it allows us to uncover utilities without damaging them. This process uses high-pressure water and a vacuum to safely expose utilities. In the video you can see why utility potholing was necessary. With multiple existing utilities, potholing helped us confirm their exact locations before we began directional drilling. This step is essential for safety and prevents accidental strikes. For this project, we completed directional boring to install both 4" and 3" conduits, providing the necessary infrastructure for future electrical runs. Directional drilling allowed us to lay these conduits with minimal impact on the surrounding area, supporting the client’s panel upgrade efficiently. 🔗 For more information on our hydro excavation services, visit Devco Hydro Excavation Services https://lnkd.in/eVDmwGv8

#Step 1: Construction Staging Areas & Storage Yards #Step 2: Clear Cutting the ROW #Step 3: Excavating the Trench #Step 4: Pipe Transport, Stringing, & Assembly #Step 5: Obstacles: Roads & Streams Pipelines #cross existing roads, highways , etc . Typically, pipelines are constructed underneath these obstacles by either boring for shallow depth or using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) for deeper placement. #Step 6: Testing & Restoration After the pipe is inspected, the trench is filled in. Before completing the project, the pipeline integrity must be verified using hydrostatic testing. #To ensure #pipeline_integrity, welds must be #x_rayed and the pipe #hydro_tested. This process involves pumping in clean water, pressured above the expected #MAOP — maximum allowable operating pressure. Then, all water is removed and “#pigs” are inserted into the pipe to clean it out. When the pigs eventually exit the far end of the pipe clean, then the line will be filled with dry air. Air compressors pump up the air, and the air is run thru a drier. The air will be sampled and tested for moisture content. When those parameters get low enough, the complete pipeline is filled with nitrogen to absorb more of the remaining moisture. Only then is the pipeline ready to transport natural gas. #Pipeline #oil_&_Gas #Gas #Construction

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Method
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a trenchless method for installing underground pipelines and cables. It involves drilling a pilot hole, enlarging it with a reamer, and then pulling the pipeline through. HDD is ideal for crossing obstacles like rivers and roads with minimal surface disruption. HDD stands for Horizontal Directional Drilling, which is a trenchless construction method used to install underground pipelines, cables, and conduits with minimal disruption to the surface. It is commonly used in projects where traditional excavation would be impractical, such as beneath rivers, roads, or urban areas. Key Features of HDD: 1. Trenchless Technology: No open excavation, minimizing environmental and surface disruption. 2. Precision: Allows for precise placement of underground utilities along predetermined paths. 3. Flexibility: Suitable for various terrains, including rocky and soft soil conditions. HDD Process: 1. Pilot Hole Drilling: A small-diameter hole is drilled along the desired path using a drill head guided by a tracking system. 2. Hole Enlargement: The pilot hole is enlarged using reamers to accommodate the desired pipe or conduit size, 3. Pipe Pullback: The utility (pipe or cable) is pulled through the enlarged hole to complete the installation. Applications: Installation of gas, oil, and water pipelines, Telecommunications and electrical conduits, Environmental remediation River crossings and wetland installations HDD is highly valued for its efficiency, environmental benefits, and ability to overcome obstacles in challenging locations.

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a trenchless method for installing underground utilities such as pipelines, cables, or conduits without excavating large trenches. The process begins with a pilot bore, where a drilling rig creates a small-diameter, precisely controlled borehole along a predetermined path. Once the pilot bore is complete, the borehole is enlarged by back-reaming to the desired diameter, allowing the utility to be pulled into place. HDD is highly versatile and suitable for crossing obstacles such as rivers, roads, or railways, minimizing surface disruption and environmental impact. Horizontal Directional Drilling: A precision-driven, trenchless solution for installing underground utilities with minimal surface disruption. Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a trenchless technology used to install underground pipes, conduits, or cables along a predetermined path. It involves drilling a horizontal borehole beneath the surface using a steerable drill bit. The method minimizes surface disruption, making it ideal for installing utilities under roads, rivers, or environmentally sensitive areas. The process consists of three stages: pilot hole drilling, hole enlargement (reaming), and pulling the pipe or conduit into place. HDD is widely used in the construction and utility industries due to its efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and ability to navigate around obstacles without excavation. video rights : Respective owners DM for removal/credits #hdd #microtunnelling #engineering #construction #civilengineering #civilconstruction #engenharia #engenhariacivil

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 As part of a major oil & gas midstream production facility, Layfield recently installed a complicated double lined containment system. HazGard 635FR was installed as the primary liner. HazGard 635FR is a fire retardant grade flexible geomembrane developed for secondary containment of combustible liquids. To expand storage capacity, 2800 lineal feet of a 12’ high vertical containment wall was constructed. The total tank farm area including the walls were double lined. The project had significant pipe penetrations and structures requiring difficult mechanical connections and welding challenges.
