FIRMLY serve “Gaajar Halwaa” (carrot pudding!)   Since “to manage” implies “to handle / direct / control” and “to influence a person by tact, flattery, or even artifice”, - depending on § the nature of work being done by those being managed § culture (education levels, work ethic, attitudes) § type of industry (service / product), type of function (manufacturing / construction / healthcare ...) § reportees’ level in the structure (front-line / trainee / probationary etc) § organization’s own “style” (promoters’ mindset!) etc - isn’t it pragmatic and sometimes even necessary for Managers to BALANCE between “monitoring” AND “motivating”, Prof @daveulrich? Aren’t Captains expected to inspire as well as DRIVE the Team members, Prof Rao TVRLS BLR? Nalagarh Fort! There are few places and visits which leave a long-lasting impression on your mind. Nalagarh Fort (Himachal Pradesh) visit comes under this category. I was serving my notice period with a training company during Sep 2007. My supervisor requested me to conduct a TTT (Train The Trainer) with a colleague on Fri 21 Sep to Sun 23 Sep 2007. These were my last 3 days of the notice period. I realised that it was going to be a hectic program but I said yes to my supervisor due to 3 reasons: 1. Trust shown by my supervisor as it was for a senior audience where regional and zonal heads of training were supposed to be part of our program. 2. Learning opportunity provided by this program 3. I always believed that notice period has to be equally exciting as your first month of journey especially if the company is giving this opportunity to contribute. My co-trainer travelled from West to Delhi HO (Head Office). Since planning of this program happened at the last moment so we took approval of using my own car for this journey. Both of us started our journey around 5 pm from Delhi. Our own content familiarization call happened during this journey with the person who created this content. We reached Nalagarh around 1 am on 21 Sep. There were no google maps, rarely any boards for direction and no humans to tell the directions. It became an adventure journey to reach there. Another reason was that both of us were driving in hills (that also at night) for the first time. We started our TTT at 9 am and it continued till 7 pm on the first 2 days and till 6 pm on the last day. We had a great time learning from each other. My co-trainer announced in the last few minutes of TTT that I am leaving the organisation and this was my last program with that company. They shared their best wishes for my future career movement. Toughest part was that I had to drive and complete my journey alone as my co-trainer was supposed to stay there and continue training with another trainer from HO. I reached back at Faridabad around 2 am and joined my new company at Delhi at 9 am. I feel that decisions like these make you stronger. This becomes a reference for future decisions. Having said the aame, I would like to know if the #team behind this idea 💡 did think about it's impact on #climate & or, #enviorment. Questions to ponder - are on both the materials in use and their #carbonfootprint. The whole idea of this #unique and #innovative flexible packaging for 5-6 cups of warm tea would lead to littering of the #cardboard boxes and insulated inside #pouch. Not sure if the pouch is bio degradable and how the use of cardboard results in #deforestation and #environmentalpollution What's your take?
