Another month, another Sales Day – this time with a sporty twist, and our first in the new office! 💥 Yesterday at developrec’s London office, we celebrated all things Paris 2024 Olympic Games! 🏀🏹🏸🥊🏊♀️🏐🏌️♀️🚣⚽️ Hosted by Melissa Deer, we kicked off the day with an Olympic-themed breakfast (if colourful Donuts can really be the Olympic rings?!), and wrapped it up with team drinks at our new London HQ local, The Vintry 🍻🍾 Special shout-out to Rob Legg from our Portsmouth office, who came dressed as a champion surfer. 🏄♂️ We also had the pleasure of officially welcoming MSc Lee Koros, ACIPD, and Terrance Hamston to the London office 🚀 Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun and made it such a memorable day. Spain’s win last night reminded us what happens when a team finds an identity to become something much greater than the sum of its parts. Watching last night’s final unfold I was struck by what it revealed about the character of the two teams. Gareth Southgate has instilled a culture of pride and resilience to this England team, which has showed itself moments of individual brilliance from Bellingham, Saka, Watkins and Palmer. Yet Spain have something that transcends all their individual brilliance, what Guillaume Ballague called “layers”, a culture that weaves resilience, creativity, adaptability and so much more into a personality that feels whole and separate from the sum of its parts. This is what every team should aspire to, whether in sport or in business. So many organisations try to build and live their culture, but a culture has to be understood and grown on a cellular level. Gareth has done a great job in projecting his own values onto his team, but it feels skin deep. We don’t have Spain’s training infrastructure, where layers of craft are nurtured from a young age and where players and managers can work together to express a thing of beauty. This concept of layers is what is at the heart of The Human Organisation, a framework that helps businesses look at themselves as if they were a person, to find a deeper understanding of who they are and who they can be. How to make a case competition feel and look like a fun company outing? Ask Carambole! We did a bombastic workshop together with WeTransfer back in 2019! I am sure most of you know this name because almost everyone at some point had to move a very large file around. It had an innovative concept because it was created at the intersection of a fun game and a business case competition. On the one hand, it had all the elements of a fun company outing: a cool venue, mingling with your colleagues and having fun together, lots of drinks, and delicious chocolate; but on the other hand, it was also a real business situation where expertise, collaboration, creative thinking, and presentation skills came in handy. Competing that day was worth it because, of course, there was a prize - a whole 1 kilogram of the highest quality craft chocolate from Krak! Basically, it was a full-cycle chocolate production in the form of friendly competition. 5 teams with 10 people in each team were creating a concept for a new chocolate, and it was quite a challenge: how to come up with a custom taste, an attractive packaging, and an idea that would resonate with the judges and beat other teams' ideas and execution? First and foremost, all the team should be made of team members with various skill sets. A team member from the Design department would then be in charge of packaging, and a team member from the Marketing department would have the edge in crafting a market strategy… you get the gist. Then great collaboration and teamwork come into play! And this is what would make this event great for the teams; it brings the people together in a way different from their everyday work: it creates new connections, it boosts creativity and interdepartmental connections, and after all - it is just a lot of fun! I wouldn't oversell if I said It was great! You could feel the buzz of creativity; it filled the room and from it a bunch of very cool ideas were born. Everyone was invested in getting their team to win; great projects were presented at the end.
