In short: the salary you need to be comfortable, but not to go crazy with your spending. Let me know how much that is, and it’s your salary from now on. Your job will remain the same. Or, if you want to do some different things; work in a new department, or change your working hours, that’s fine. The only catch is that you can’t ‘move up’. Your title will stay the same. You won’t have more responsibility or be any more ‘senior’ to anyone else. You won’t be taking a step upwards, but staying where you are.” …Would you take that deal? No doubt job hopping got you a higher salary. But now you're confused where the money went. You made some great memories with that 30% salary boost: • Bought a new car (or two). • Travelled all over the world. • Tried that Michelin-star restaurant. • Lived luxuriously in your high-rise apartment. You used your money lavishly, But now you have to face reality. You're dealing with: • Insuring 2 cars. • Paying Credit Card Bills. • No investment contributions. • College lifestyle bank account. It's time to grow up. Here's how: 1. Cut the expenses Live within your means. No luxury, cheat days 1x a week. Frankly, that's 50% reduction right there. 2. Pay yourself first Treat yourself like the IRS. Pay yourself first and then your wants. You'd pay the bill if it had consequences. 3. Spend money on things you cherish You like cooking? Buy that Kitchen-Aid. Gym bro? Spend $250 on a workout class. But no expenditure outside your priorities. There's nothing worse than seeing your income grow, but you have nothing to show for it. How much money would you sell your life for? Specifically, what is one hour of your life worth to you? If you could put a figure on what you would charge someone to take one hour of your time away from you, what would it be? I've heard '£20k'. I've heard 'I wouldn't sell, my life is too precious'. How about £15? £20? Maybe £25? Not worth it right? Well if you divide the number of hours you work your job by your salary then this is your price (and that's before tax!) If you love what you do, that's fantastic! Can you also build a residual income that increases your hourly rate exponentially? Have you thought about trying? Your life is worth more than £25 per hour. Expand your income streams this year and prove it!

Imagine yourself 5 years back: - Your salary was low - Or you were about to finish college - You wanted to get placed - You wanted a good salary package Today, you might have achieved all of the above BUT Today you: - Want a better job - Want more hike - Want a car - A house What happened between then and now? The goal post shifted. You no longer are satisfied with the previous achievements. Basically now you are chasing the next shiny distraction. 5 years from now, you might have achieved some or all of these expectations as well, then what? You will again chase the next shiny distraction. And again the next. Where does this stop? Let me tell you, IT WON’T At lest until you understand: 1) What is true meaning of wealth? 2) What is your end goal? Until you answer these questions, you will always keep chasing the next shiny distraction & your next generation will follow the same route. GET PAID WHAT YOU'RE WORTH In almost any job, you give up some of your hours, apply your education, experience and skills to do the work and at the end of the month, in exchange, you get a salary. Not wrong that we all should expect to be paid what we are worth right? Hate to break your bubble but that is a myth that has been drilled into your brain by well intentioned coaches, mentors, friends, associates and mum & dad since your got your first paycheck. The truth is, you do not ever get paid what you're worth and you never ever ever will. In any company, you are expected to generate some form of dollar value. Either in directly bringing in more money, indirectly helping the people who bring in more money or directly helping to make sure the money going out is kept low. That is your WORTH TO THE COMPANY. What's your number? Let's say I had a job that was ready for you - it had benefits, it was guaranteed 40 hours a week, no more no less. If you knew nothing more than that about the job, how much money would it take for you to take the job? You get to name your salary. The kicker is that you could love this job or you could absolutely hate it. Many people equate a dream career to a dream salary. It's the avenue to what you really want to do on the weekends or at night - it helps you afford what you really want. I ask this question to high schoolers and college students and you'd be surprised the answers I get. No high schooler has ever given me a number lower than $250,000 a year. No college student has ever given me a number higher than $75,000. One even said "heck, I'd take $40k right now." This shows how willing we are to settle over time just to either get by or, in the case of the college student, what they are willing to do to avoid the stress of finding a job. What if we concentrated on the work itself instead of the compensation? We've been told to go to college to get a degree so we could get a good job so we could afford a home/spouse/kids - and a "good job" always (and only) meant one that paid well and had good benefits. It never mattered what the job actually was. So think about that when you're on your next job search - maybe it's not the compensation you're after...maybe it's the life you want to live through the work you want to do. But there's a kicker to this question as well. If you ever take a job for more than the amount of money you specified earlier, be very careful. Because any job you take for more money than your number is a job you're more than likely taking just for the money. It means you're willing to do anything for more than that salary. That is a recipe for burnout and hating your job because it's not what you really wanted to do. Be aware if this should happen to you - your number might be lower than you think.

I was often told that I lived beyond my means! 😅 And they were right! At least this was true for the first 2 years of my working career, back in 2006. Let me break it down for you... To start off, I made a great starting salary (or so I thought at the time)... 💰 Plus, I had a variable income and made almost double my salary with just that. 😎 But I lost control. 😞 I didn't track my spend. 😔 I just spent. 💸 Big Big Boo Boo! 😫 More importantly though, I learnt quickly. VERY quickly. 😎 And here is what I learnt: 📊 Track the numbers - ins and outs (applies if you are in business too)! 💡 Don't just save, invest! 📈 Learn the effects of compound interest. 🏠 Don't gather liabilities, build assets. And last but certainly not the least, ❌ Don't spend on a boy who you know (deep down) has no real interest in you.
