🌫️ #Silent #Killer in the #Air: The Hidden #Dangers of PM2.5 in #India's Major #Cities 💨 In the bustling streets of #Delhi, #Mumbai, #Kolkata, and #Ahmedabad, millions go about their daily #lives unaware of the invisible danger lurking in the air they #breathe. #Children play in parks, #families gather for meals, and the hustle of life seems unstoppable. But behind this #everyday normalcy, something sinister is happening—a silent killer that often goes unnoticed but has devastating #effects: #airpollution. A recent study conducted by the International Institute for Population Science (IIPS) shines a light on just how #deadly this #threat has become. For years, India’s major cities have struggled with rising levels of air pollution, particularly dangerous particles known as PM2.5, which easily #penetrate the #lungs and cause serious harm. But until now, the true impact on human life—especially the lives of the most vulnerable—has remained somewhat elusive. PHOTONIC SENSING SOLUTIONS FOR MONITORING: ENVIRONMENT, CONDITION & VIBRATION, SECURITY & SURVEILLANCE AND HUMAN HEALTH
Sir, rightly apted lines from Rigveda "More growth means more production, but also more consumption." The book Wasteland: The Dirty Truth About What We Throw Away, Where It Goes, and Why It Matters, sheds light on how large-scale consumption is taking a toll on Mother Earth, making our future increasingly vulnerable. We must rethink our approach to growth to ensure a sustainable and resilient world for generations to come. #Sustainability #GrowthMindset #EnvironmentalImpact #FutureGenerations

If our water (#rivers), air, and soil are polluted, how can humanity continue to survive on this planet? ...…and what I do with growth without clean #water!! Not lost in the clouds of dreams… this #journalist in the video is boating through the toxic fog of the #Yamuna River, right here in Delhi. Life can only thrive when these essential elements—water, air, and soil—remain pure. This truth was understood thousands of years ago. As a verse from the Rigveda states this: 'पृथ्वीः पूः च उर्वी भव।' Rigveda (1.555.1976) More growth means, production, but also means more consumption. I believe, knowingly or unknowingly, we all contribute to this problem through our #consumption. Whether it’s a new dress, vehicle, or electronic device, each purchase has an impact on the environment. On this finite planet with finite resources, Let’s all be mindful of buying anything new. On the 29th May 2024, the temperature of Delhi reached to 52.9°C ,highest ever recorded in India. This is an alarming situation and we are all responsible for it. Whether it's Water Crisis of Bangluru or Pollution Problem in Delhi, all are man-made problems which needs to be addressed with utmost importance. Our ancestors left habitable world to us. Are we making it inhabitable for the next generation? We should ponder upon this. #Delhitemperature #BangluruWaterCrisis #EnvironmentalIssues

India the second polluted country in the world, with an average PM2.5 concentration of 58. Of the 30 most polluted cities in the world, 21 of them are located in India. The most polluted city in India and the world is Kanpur, where the city's medical college receives about 600 respiratory illness patients per month. India's unhealthy pollution levels are from sources such as vehicles, the burning of coal and wood, dust storms, and forest fires. Delhi, India's capital region, is notorious for some of the worst air in India, forcing flight cancellations, causing traffic accidents, closing of schools, and even turning the white marble walls of the Taj Mahal yellow and green. Rural areas are also heavily affected by pollution in India, as people rely on fuels such as wood and dung for cooking and heating and still practice the burning of crop stubble. #pollution #india #indiatransport #logistics #supplychain #nitingadkari

Unprecedented urban heat stress has been experienced across India this summer. While most heat wave warnings focused on temperatures above 45 deg C -- the brunt of the unlivable heat stress was experienced in east coast cities of India. At 196 hours, city of Vijayawada experienced the highest number of heat stress hours across India. Nearly 10 cities had more than 100 heat stress hours. New climate analytics report by Respirer made it to the front-page story of LiveMint. For full report, do see here: https://lnkd.in/dyxZh8Jk #UrbanHeatStress #HeatIndex #MINT

Heat wave warnings in India have not captured the severity of the "Heat Stress" that has been experienced in several coastal cities of India. 6 of top 10 cities with 100+ heat stress hours are on the east coast of India (Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Kolkata, Puducherry) with 3 others in Gujarat (Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat). Most of the IMD Heat Wave warnings have focused on Delhi and North India. But the unlivable heat stress has been experienced over the past 4 weeks mainly in east and west coast cities. Report by Respirer Living Sciences on Front Page of today’s LiveMint Air Pollution during Winter in Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) cities and Heat Stress during Summer for East Coast cities is potentially giving rise to a true "climate migration" situation across India. Unless we don't understand this in the right context - the livability of our cities continues to decline. 💥 Residents in Chennai have taken proactive measures to protect their vehicles from the severe waterlogging caused by the ongoing heavy rains. Many have parked their cars on elevated surfaces like flyovers to safeguard them from rising waters. This practical solution reflects the resilience and resourcefulness of Chennai's community amidst challenging weather conditions. 💥 The heavy rains battering Chennai are part of a larger weather phenomenon affecting southern India. The northeast monsoon, which typically impacts the southeastern coast, has intensified in recent days, leading to extensive rainfall in cities like Chennai. As a result, waterlogging has become a pressing issue, with reports of flooded neighborhoods, traffic congestions, and even cancellations of domestic flights and train services. 💥 Authorities have issued alerts and advisories, directing residents to park their vehicles safely and urging essential services to continue functioning despite the disruptions. 💥 The situation is closely monitored by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has forecast additional rainfall for the coming days, necessitating continued vigilance and preparation efforts. ❤️ Stay safe Chennai! #chennai #chennaifloods #chennairains
