https://lnkd.in/gBnfaqnE Exploitation is happening without remorse nor open conversations and to the people that need the greatest empathy, support and recognition. So many companies unfortunately have the most impressive and glossy ESG policies and marketing collateral. Unfortunately, the veneer of social and climate responsibility is very thin. Beyond the obvious discussion of poverty alleviation, giving living wages, zero poverty and minimising food waste, the way cleaning and support staff are being treated is disgraceful way. So much of this exploitation is happening by organisations that should know and do better. As the article demonstrates, @total clean, the law firm @Devonshires (in this instance) and the many blue chip and corporate clients of 'impressive' institutions need to do better in how we look after people both within and out of our organisations. I for one welcome that people cleaning would not only eat but instead of good food going in a bin could feed those that go hungry or cannot afford to eat well. Gabriela Rodriguez was sacked as 2 people from the law firm Devonshired witnessed her eat a tuna sandwich and reported her. What a toxic firm and heartless employees.

In a world where child labour and forced labour are prevalent in the cocoa sector, retailers have a crucial role to play in upholding human rights within their direct operations and throughout their supply chain by conducting ongoing, risk-based human rights due diligence (HRDD). Companies have a responsibility under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) to respect human rights throughout their operations and value chains. Tearfund, in collaboration with First Mile, has created a human rights due diligence toolkit to support businesses to apply these responsibilities to the informal waste sector as part of recognising their critical role in circular value chains.
