I'm doing something new to help leadership teams rapidly address and solve messaging problems: Messaging Hackathons 🚀 These are intensive, one-day events designed to help your team move forward faster with the right messaging in place. Think of it as another off-site for your ELT team. Focused time to get in a room, put everything on the table, and carve the right path forward. This is the right session for your team if you want any or all of the following near-future outcomes: 1. Differentiation is clear to everyone 2. Sellers are more confident and equipped 3. Prospects understand value and urgency 4. More deals are being won in less time I can run these day-long sessions at your office or at one of my dedicated workshop spaces in Minneapolis. If you're thinking about your objectives for this year and you feel in your gut that a session like this would likely help you get to where you need to go faster, reach out to learn more and book your hackathon day.

We recently held our first hackathon, where our (almost) entire team came together for an in-depth strategy session. We hopped on a call to dive deep into any areas where we were facing annoyances or challenges and identify processes that needed improvement. This was our chance to align our strategies, tackle any roadblocks, and ensure we’re all moving forward smoothly and on the same page. By working through these issues together, we were able to streamline our operations so we can continue to deliver our best work! Do you host hackathons or something similar at your company? How do you cultivate a culture of ongoing improvement and open dialogue?

Did you know Braze holds its own hackathon? Started in 2015 by our CTO Jonathan Hyman and CPO Kevin Wang as a way to foster collaboration and creativity, Braze’s Hackathon takes place three times a year and any Braze employee can take part, either individually or as part of a team. In our latest edition, 74 participants from six departments participated globally, from the US to Japan! You don’t have to be an engineer to join – just passionate about innovation and exploring new creative ideas to solve a problem. As part of the Logistics team, I focused on spreading awareness internally about the event, making sure everything ran smoothly from the beginning all the way to the announcement of the winning teams. The Hackathon turned out to be an incredibly engaging, fun and inclusive event, and I’m proud of everyone who played a part in making it the success that it was. And that’s not surprising – after all, Braze itself was born at a hackathon won by our Co-founders Bill and Jon in 2011, so we can definitely say innovation is in our DNA. So many ideas born from past Braze Hackathons have gone on to become actual products or have made a tangible impact for our customers through our customer engagement platform - I can’t wait to see what will come out of this one. Yesterday, We hosted our first hackathon of the year at Luno, with plans for another later this year 🤞. As always, I was amazed by the quality and execution of the entries from every team. We had a total of 18 teams from across the organisation, not just engineering, and dedicated 2 days for them to work on their projects. The results were incredible. The theme for this hackathon was "Keep it simple." Participants were challenged to rethink and improve processes and complex customer journeys, looking beyond the status quo to reimagine how we work and what we create. Here are some key insights I've gathered on the value of hosting a hackathon: 1. Innovation and quick thinking: Hackathons encourage creative thinking and problem-solving, leading to the development of innovative solutions and new ideas that can benefit the 2. Cross-Functional Collaboration and team building: Hackathons bring together employees from different departments, fostering cross-functional collaboration and breaking down silos. Team Building: These events promote collaboration and teamwork, helping employees to build stronger relationships and improve their ability to work together effectively. 3. Customer-Centric Solutions: By focusing on real-world problems, hackathons can lead to solutions that are closely aligned with customer needs and market demands. I am incredibly proud of everyone who participated, our fantastic judges, and the brilliant team that helped organise the event 🚀 .

This is how we build at hackathons 🔥🤯 Yesterday, after a long time, I participated in a hackathon. ps: I’m bored of the usual problem statements that come up at hackathons. They don’t feel overwhelming or exciting to build anymore, which is why I’ve stopped attending them frequently—there’s no point in repeating the same thing and learning nothing new. We built an event management system: Step 1: Brainstorm, think of priority features, and write down everything you feel is important. Step 2: Product roadmap and task assignment—this is the most important part. Step 3: Work on unique features after building the priority ones. Step 4: Prepare the pitch. Step 5: Seek feedback and iterate. We qualified the hackathon by coming into top 8 teams out of 80+ teams and stay tuned for rd2 of international level hackathon :) Had fun working w Sharvin Gavad Sheldon Chettiar Neston Cabral

Planning a company retreat? Here are some top tips from Nango (YC W23) latest offsite in Catalunya: 🌿 Choose an Inspiring Location We opted for a calm, natural environment that boosted our creativity and relaxation. Our picturesque house, just a short drive from Barcelona, provided everyone with their own room, ensuring comfort after a day's brainstorming. ⚖️ Balance Structure and Downtime It's all about the right mix! We engaged in a quarterly planning session, a product brainstorm, and a challenging 2-day hackathon. The remainder of our time was dedicated to entertainment and strengthening team bonds. 🎯 Set Clear Objectives Our retreat goals were to strengthen team connections, align on strategic goals for the upcoming quarter, and drive innovation through our hackathon. The hackathon, in particular, proved excellent for forging stronger bonds while remaining productive. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you want tips on organizing a great hackathon!
