Four ways to break into the PR industry! 🚀 1. Gain relevant education and experience: Pursue a degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field. Look for internships or entry-level positions in PR agencies or in-house communication departments to gain hands-on experience. Some of the places hiring for interns are Portland, Make Honey, bp, Taylor Bennett Foundation, YAP Global Ltd, Hewlett Packard Enterprise. 2. Build a strong network: Attend industry events, join professional organizations, and network with professionals in the field. Building connections can help you learn about job opportunities, gain advice, and develop industry knowledge. The Weekly PR, Women in PR and The House of marketing and PR are great places to start. 3. Develop strong communication skills: As PR professionals, communication skills are crucial. Work on developing your writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills. You can also gain experience by creating a blog, managing social media accounts, or volunteering to create communication materials for a non-profit organisation. This gives you another string to your bow and makes you more hireable. 4. Connect with people that are already living and breathing PR, ask them for support, guidance or even a quick chat to find out how they got into the role they did. We live in a world where everybody is so easily accessible now, make the most of it! Hiring Managers: this post is for you. In The Lab UT program we form student strategic communication agencies. This is the capstone course experience for THE best and brightest in both advertising and public relations. I'm in my 20th year of teaching in the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin since I left my successful career in industry. Every.single.semester I learn something new from our students. I find client sponsors to work with each student agency. It is the most experiential learning experience that each of our students will experience as a 'full-service' agency. It's always hard for me at the end each semester to say good-bye to my students. They are well prepared to enter the industry of their choice to change the world. #whatstartshere Hiring managers: most university students do not have a program like ours where ever single student in our department gets to experience this level of skill building.
