I’m getting bored of reading that AI is revolutionising recruitment. Or that Recruiter’s jobs now boil down to soft skills and candidate experience. Unless I’m completely misunderstanding what these tools do, or the information available to them, my interpretation is that they play ‘snap’ very quickly with key words and data. The key words on ‘active’ candidate’s CVs and/or profiles who have applied to a company’s advert or sit on a database(s) hoping to be found. Maybe it’s just me, but I know the last CV I circulated was around 9 years ago. And I can’t remember the last job advert I applied to. Even as a Recruiter my LinkedIn profile isn’t an exact reflection of what I do and doesn't explain what I am interested in doing next.   The best candidates on the market will remain invisible to AI.   So no, in my opinion it’s not “revolutionising recruitment”, it’s making sifting through a database(s) and/or advert applications faster.   And the jury’s still out about whether it’s even making that process more accurate or effective from what I'm reading. Despite using ATS tools, some resumes that aren't relevant to the position manage to slip through the cracks. While upwards of 80% of employers are likely leveraging some type of AI technology in their hiring process, fact remains that the tech is fairly underdeveloped, and its efficacy still questionable. But that doesn't really help a job seeker when you're investing significant time into applications and waiting to hear back about that *perfect fit* of a role. A rising complaint, both among my clients and job seekers as a whole, has been a frustratingly high lack of response to opportunities they feel were exceptionally aligned with their skills and experience. So why employ a flawed technology that often results in an inability to connect with high-value talent? Too many applications to sort through, need for efficiency, cost savings, time savings, etc. But here's the problem with that: "We’ve seen proof that [the technology] is very efficient and saves a lot of money. We haven’t found a lot of evidence to prove that it finds the most qualified candidates, or that there is less bias," says Hilke Schellmann, author of "The Algorithm: How AI Decides Who Gets Hired, Monitored, Promoted, and Fired and Why We Need to Fight Back Now." AI is not going away - it already plays a weighty role in recruiting, and (hopefully) we're going to see it evolve in ways that positively impact *both* candidates and employers.
