I love this theme. The question is where you are, how can you invest in women? I think that training and capacity building will empower women to be ready to take up the opportunities that will come from accelerating progress. Investing in women could also go as far as building capacity to encourage attaining global certification such as Quality Management Systems, Environmental Management Systems and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. Certification gives customers confidence that the goods and services they procure comply with agreed norms, but it is not an affordable solution for many women-owned businesses. However, agreements could be made with business organisations such as Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT) OWIT Kenya (Organization Of Women In International Trade) OWIT Ghana OWIT Nigeria Tshengi Ndlovu and OWIT Zimbabwe so that their members can be certified through them and compete locally, regionally or globally. This would benefit the entire value chain, ad these organisations have members who are able to achieve this if afforded a chance. Coaching and mentoring women and young people with also go a long way in showing how things should/actually work. When more successful women share their stories we will have more people to look up to regardless of our backgrounds. I see how much I have grown personally and professionally through life and career coaching and formal and informal mentorship from Neil N. Malila PhD Frida Owinga Tshengi Ndlovu Prof. Dr. Andreas Kelling Cyprian Tambo and many more successful people and enablers who saw so much potential in me and ensured that I loved to that potential, even when my life took twists and turns, they kept me accountable. They invested their time, knowledge and networks to accelerate my progress. So, yes, investing in women does work. Responsible procurement is another way to accelerate progress. Procurement policies must be designed to encourage more women to bid for meaningful tenders, over and above the usual catering, cleaning, and similar contracts. Women must be invested in to be able to go for the big contracts and deliver, because women-owned or women-led businesses can. We want to build housing estates. We want our businesses to deliver training to build capacity through certification. We want to supply equipment. We want so much and so many of us can do it. Just ask for membership directories to see the vast potential in our members across the globe. But the most important reason to invest in women is because what they know they will share with other women. It is just in our nature. Happy holidays
