This quote applies to us as a nation, and it applies quite literally to the engineering, surveying, and construction industries. As we look back on the contributions made by women to better this nation and the opportunities yet to come, we are truly inspired. What was once only a weeklong celebration is now a month and that’s for good reason. We have a lot of accomplishments to acknowledge so don’t limit your celebration of women’s history to just the month of March. #theDGLdifference #Womensmonth #CivilEngineering #TransportationEngineering #TrafficEngineering #StructuralEngineering #SiteAndFacilityDevelopment #ConstructionEngineering #LandSurveying #DBE #SBE

March is Women's History Month and is a time to celebrate the incredible achievements of women across various fields, including those who have broken barriers in industries traditionally dominated by men. In the construction sector, one standout figure is Emily Roebling, known for her pivotal role in the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge. Emily Roebling stepped into a key management role in the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge when her husband, Washington Roebling, the chief engineer, became incapacitated. With no formal training in civil engineering, she taught herself the necessary skills and effectively managed the project to completion in 1883. Her work not only proved that women could excel in engineering and construction but also laid the groundwork for future generations of women in these fields. Today, women continue to make strides in construction, a field where they once were rarely seen. From leading large construction firms to innovating in green building and sustainable design, women are reshaping the industry. Celebrating Women's History Month allows us to acknowledge and appreciate the groundbreaking contributions of women like Emily Roebling, whose perseverance and intelligence have paved the way for future generations of women in construction and engineering. #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenInConstruction #Trailblazer #EmilyRoebling #EngineeringExcellence #WomenInSTEM #BreakingBarriers #ConstructionIndustry #FemaleLeadership #EmpowermentInConstruction

Brand Builder | Industrial Electrical | Podcast Co-Host 🎙 TEDx Speaker 🐯 Advocate Allyship 👷♀️ Entrepreneur 🤍 Family Biz
WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION 🎉 30 years each = 90 years of experience 🎉 I am so grateful to have bumped into each of these women. I discovered what makes my heart SMILE: advocating for females in nontraditional roles. I have spent most of my career in roles where there was only me: boardrooms, leadership roles, job sites, ownership, and so on. Our industry needs PEOPLE. Associated Builders and Contractors stated that we needed to attract close to 1 million people by the end of 2025. ** How are we going to do this?? Talk to the females with years of experience on how to attract females and the next generation. There are loads of us out there who want to help our industry become better and attract more talent. My two fabulous peers and friends, Rachel Veltri & Christi Powell: 🛠️ Speak from decades of EXPERIENCE. 🛠️ Surrounded by other females in construction giving back. 🛠️ Number 1 goal is to share these trailblazers' stories, which also share impactful advice. 🛠️ Connecting the next generation with female trailblazers in construction - mentoring and more. Ways we do some of this: 👷🏻♀️ Women Construction Forum Upstate SC, Founded in 2019 👷🏻♀️ Women Talk Construction, Founded in 2022 I am grateful for the many male advocates who give their time to these initiatives! 🙏🏻 ✅ Check out my LinkedIn profile and you will see all my roles in construction sector including all the ways I have given back. I also drop little nuggets of how I've dealt with certain situations throughout my career in others posts. #womeninconstruction #trailblazers #womentalkconstruction #makeanimpact

Today we're celebrating some of the amazing achievements women are fulfilling every single day, in construction 🏠⚒👷♀️ This #WomenInConstructionWeek we’d like to celebrate the many women at Orwell working in construction related jobs; to take the opportunity to highlight some of their roles but also to raise awareness of the careers available to women in the affordable housing construction related sector. Women remain significantly underrepresented in the construction industry, still only around 16%, but the industry can’t afford to ignore them. Labour and skills shortages, with high demand and increasing costs, are often cited as the biggest challenge to the future of housing building. The contribution of women in many areas of the industry could support a more equitable sector: challenging the current male dominated environment. Inclusivity is needed and should be standard and we are committed to pushing this forward. As women working in the industry, we feel a responsibility to encourage advocacy, education, and networking to inspire future generations. We want to help challenge stereotypes and showcase what can be done. Rather than ‘fall into’ a career in construction we want young women to be aware of the possibilities and be able to positively choose a career in construction and affordable housing construction. As part of this week's celebrations, we commit to our #WICPledge, where we will: - Visit schools and groups to showcase the work and roles of women in construction. - Actively promote recruitment of women to our construction related roles. - Offer mentoring opportunities to young women starting or looking to start their career. Do you know influential women in the construction industry? Be sure to tag them below. We are inclusive. We are supportive We are Orwell. #construction #teamorwell #womeninconstruction #suffolk Liveta Bileisyte Dawn EdwardsKelly Biddle MCIOB Carolyn Allan Natasha Woolley Charlotte Dautzenberg

This week we celebrate Women in Construction. But what does that mean....how do you celebrate? -Acknowledge the women whom you work next to! Learn and understand their challenges so that you know whether you can offer support. -Be an Advocate! Through your learning and understanding speak up and spread awareness in order to help us break down barriers and speak up when you are witness to any form of discrimination. -Educate our youth! Many young girls may not be aware of the incredible opportunities that construction careers can offer. -Challenge your company to make change! What percentage of women work and are hired at your company? How are they making efforts to diversify the organization? How does your company support women who work there? I want to see the next generation of young women entering the workforce, especially in the construction industry, continue to... -see less hurdles and more doors being opened -see less discrimination and more recognition and acknowledgement, and -see less fear and more confidence! Happy Celebrating and Congratulations to all the incredibly driven and successful women, mothers and caretakers in my life!

Today I participated in an insightful discussion at the Women in Construction, Engineering and Infrastructure Summit 2024. As a panelist in the CEO session on "Fostering an Inclusive and Respectful Culture," I found the exchange of ideas with fellow leaders to be both valuable and thought-provoking. Key takeaways: - The power of diverse perspectives in driving innovation - Strategies for creating truly inclusive workplaces - The importance of mentorship and sponsorship for women in our industry A personal highlight was sharing an anecdote that perfectly encapsulates why this work matters: My young son recently asked if, as a man, he could one day become a CEO like his mum. It was a poignant reminder that representation changes perceptions for all. My call to action: Let's amplify empathy and equality in our workplaces. When we see each individual as inherently valuable, we unlock unprecedented potential. Thank you to the summit organizers and all participants. Your commitment to positive change is truly inspiring. What steps are you taking to foster inclusivity in your organization? Let's continue this crucial conversation and drive meaningful progress together. #WomenInConstruction #InclusiveLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion #IndustryInnovation SYSTRA ANZ

#long post alert This video has brought memories of my early days in the construction industry. Getting a job was a hustle! It highlights the enduring challenges that women face when looking for a job within this traditionally male-dominated field. Proving that you can do the job perfectly is hard unless people see you in action. As I reminisced about my own journey, I couldn't help but reflect on the myriad obstacles that women encounter when embarking on careers in construction. Yet, amidst the adversity, there shines a glimmer of hope – a testament to the indomitable spirit of women who refuse to be defined by societal expectations. It underscores the importance of fostering inclusive environments within the construction industry, where diversity is celebrated and every individual is afforded the opportunity to thrive. As I watched the video unfold, I couldn't help but feel a sense of solidarity with my fellow women in construction, united in our shared quest to break down barriers and pave the way for future generations of women in construction. While the road may be fraught with challenges, it is also lined with moments of triumph and resilience. To the young girls considering a career in construction, I urge you to pursue your passion fearlessly. Despite the challenges, the construction industry offers rewarding opportunities for growth and fulfillment. Embrace your talents, cultivate your skills, and never underestimate your worth. Seek out mentors and advocate for yourself. #womeninconstruction #womenintrades #womeninarchitecture #womenengineers #womenincarpentry
