This is the perfect example of perseverance, determination, and relentlessness that can be used as a framework in nearly every situation, in sports or in another professional career. Prior to Sunday, Xander Schauffele had 6 PGA tournament wins, but zero of them major wins, despite having 13 top 10 finishes in major tournaments. 6 wins on the PGA Tour is more than most professional golfers will ever achieve, and alone may have earned Schauffele a spot in the hall of fame. However, the PGA icon had his eyes on something more than a solid career and legacy; to be a Major Champion. Throughout your career, you will experience success and failure. With failure, we know we need to roll with the punches, get back up, and keep going. When you succeed, raise your standards. There is no ceiling, there's only a higher level of excellence to achieve, in Xander's case, to be a major champion.
Before today, Xander Schauffele had never won a major. He almost did in 2018. He was the co-leader at the Open Championship, but he fell short in the final stretch. He was the only one in the top five of the world golf rankings without a major win—until Sunday. He just birdied the 18th hole of the PGA Championship to win $3.3M and his FIRST major. RUN TO GET THE PRIZE "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize." (1 Cor. 9:24) Apostle Paul gives us an analogy with an Isthmian Games held at Corinth in his days, which included running, boxing, jumping, and throwing. These games required extensive time of training, and the participants were mostly rich young men who didn’t have to work. The contestants competed against each other. But it was only the winner of an event that received a prize. The prize itself had very little value, being just a laurel wreath to wear on one's head. Its primary value lay in the honor it bestowed on the champion. (Ed Jarret). Brethren, we are also running a race, but for the crown that will never wear out. To win a prize, we must practice running as we look onto "the author and finisher of our faith", (Heb. 12:2). We have to walk daily with the Master, and learn of Him every step of the way. While we are not competing against each other for a single crown; yet, we need to fix our eyes on the goal and run with patience and perseverance: "Brethren, I do not consider myself as having laid hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting those things which are behind, and stretching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward calling of God in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 3:13,14). Are you focused on the race to win the imperishable crown or you're easily sidetracked by other things of this world? Persevere in your faith, until the end: "For whoever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that overcomes the world: our faith." (1 John 5:4). Run to get the prize! See you at the Bema Seat of Christ (2 Cor. 5:10). PRAYER: Lord Jesus, since You're my inspiration and focal point in this race; my winning is sure banker.
