Rising costs can be seen everywhere around us, not just at the gas pump or the grocery store. This is one of the reasons it is most important for healthcare facilities to be conducting planned maintenance (PM) on their manual and automatic doors. Regular upkeep helps identify issues early, reducing the likelihood of unexpected repairs, ultimately saving time and money for the property owner. In addition to planned maintenance, annual compliance inspections are essential for ensuring all assemblies are functioning correctly and can effectively contain or prevent the spread of fire and smoke. This is vital for providing a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees, as well as for helping to control costs for the facility. The DH Pace Compliance Services team has highly qualified and experienced staff who specialize in providing healthcare facilities what they need to succeed during inspections and surveys. We're shining a light on an issue that's too important to overlook – transparency in hospital maintenance. 🏥✨ Clark Services Group has recently uncovered compliance gaps in a major hospital network, highlighting a troubling lack of transparency among service vendors. NFPA 96 violations are not just ticking boxes; they're potential hazards that could impact the safety of patients and staff. Our commitment to health and safety is unwavering. That's why we're not just raising the alarm; we're taking action. We urge all healthcare facilities to demand detailed reports and before/after photos from their maintenance vendors to ensure they get the service and safety they are promised. To support this, we're offering a FREE survey for your kitchen exhausts and air handlers to make sure your facility meets the highest standards. Don't be left in the dark about the condition of your critical systems. 🔍💼 Stay informed, stay compliant, and ensure the well-being of those who trust you with their care. NEW WEBINAR ALERT 📢 Join FSM and Sentry Doors Ltd - More than just a door on 24 October 2024 at 10:30am to discover how to procure the right fire safety doors for your healthcare facility. Fire doors are a key part of any building’s passive fire protection system but are likely to need to work especially hard in hospitals, clinics and other healthcare settings with vulnerable patients and demanding practical considerations. Emergency evacuations can be particularly challenging in healthcare facilities due to the potential dependency or mobility impairments of patients, so fire doors in these environments need to offer enhanced fire defence and smoke protection to maximise safe escape routes and fire sterile areas. Healthcare and medical environments will also need fire doors with specialist features to meet exacting hygiene and functional practicalities, and they will need to be compliant with industry-specific performance requirements too. Helping ASCs With Life Safety Compliance🧯| Fire Chief (Ret.)| Author-“Ambulatory Surgery Center Safety Guidebook”
36, 14, 8, or less….Did you know that your ASC must have the correct number and type of electrical receptacles in certain areas? 2012 NFPA 99 Health Care Facilities Code 6.3.2.2.6.2 Minimum Number of Receptacles. The number of receptacles shall be determined by the intended use of the patient care rooms in accordance with 6.3.2.2.6.2(A) through 6.3.2.2.6.2(E). The type (emergency vs. normal) and minimum required number varies based on the level on patient care in the given area. It may be 36, 14, 8, or less. Just to add another layer of fun 😊, it can also depend on whether the facility is classified as “new” or “existing”. Questions? I can help! #asc #lifesafety #healthcare

Whilst some recent news outlets are writing outraged stories about the appearance of mould growth on the ceilings of hospitals, if the public knew the truth about the prevalence of mould growth inside hospital air-conditioning systems, there would be proper outrage. In my thirty-odd years of HVAC hygiene and microbial contamination consulting, I found it extremely rare for any healthcare facility (or any other commercial building) to maintain the air-conditioning systems in compliance with AS/NZS 3666.2 Air-handling and water systems of buildings—Microbial control (Part 2 - Operation and Maintenance). Budget restraints, ignorance and negligence are some of the main reasons but there is simply no justification for allowing people's health to be placed at avoidable risk. And yes, the image posted here was taken from the inside of a post-filtered supply air conditioning duct in an Australian public hospital. Read more about mould in hospital air-conditioning systems that I wrote in this issue of The Australian Hospital Engineer over a decade ago.
