Proposals to launch a trial to allow bikes on trams will be considered by transport leaders next week. The Manchester Metrolink currently allows folded bikes in bags on trams, but standard bikes are not permitted under current rules. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has now confirmed proposals to undertake a guided pilot to test the safe carriage of bikes and non-standard cycles on off-peak tram services. The pilot will start at the end of February and will take place over a period of four to six weeks, with results presented back to the Bee Network Committee in the summer. TfGM will shortly recruit volunteers from groups it is already working with to participate in the guided pilot. The initiative for allowing bikes on trams is a significant step towards enhancing the flexibility and inclusivity of light rail transport, supporting sustainable travel, and catering to the diverse needs of passengers. #Cargobikes and #cyclelogistics are prominently placed on the stage of Velocity 2024 in Ghent. We had a great panel with urbike, BCLF - Belgian Cycle Logistics Federation and Cycling Industries Europe which clearly pointed out: cycle logistics is ready to grow and become a standard of urban logistics. One major barrier is still the urban infrastructure creating market conditions benefiting (fossil) vans to cargo bikes. We need to change that. Municipalities are a major driver of change here. Our presentation on the project #iKnowRadlogistik provided fruitful insight into the current situation and starting points to built up knowledge and capacity for cycle logistics.
