We recently won a highly competitive enterprise deal while entering the deal days before they signed with a competitor. How? Our Knowledge Base Automation and AI responses were 2x better. From the first moment we entered the deal, we understood our customer's two key pain points with their internal ticketing system. We’ve quickly developed and pushed these features, which would have taken our competitors months to copy. I guess I did my part by running around from one call to the next, but when your product sells itself this well, you start to question your importance (don’t let Tom Bachant hear that). On my first day at Unthread, I remember Tom mentioning how “revenue is a team sport.” Everyone contributes when you compete (and win) against enterprises as a four-person team.

Not sure anybody buys that Tech Soft 3D isn't competing with its clients. I mean did anyone think that 3D Systems Corporation and Stratasys wasn't competing with their customers when they tried to dip their toes into the service bureau market (and promptly abandoned the attempt)? Yet, I don't see they had much choice but to go broader. It is now so easy to build your own rendering, annotation and file translation system that any speed advantage to startups is minimised. And with the VC-fueled, growth-by-all-means age coming to an end, churn will rise and pipeline will shrink. Anybody who doesn't own their stack and pays hefty licensing fees will be thought of as having a competitive disadvantage. So for Tech Soft to use their true competitive advantage (its knowledge of which of its customers are/not succeeding) to broaden its base and fight its way out of the corner its now in makes complete sense - congrats on the deal! Just don't pretend you're not competing.
