Behind the scenes: there are a ton of metrics to watch during the day. We monitor ink levels on our machines, ensure there is enough paper/materials for our jobs, and we even keep an eye on humidity & temperature in the shop. Why? Paper absorbs moisture, and that can greatly impact the quality of print, drying time, etc. #DRSImagingandPrint #behindthescenes #motivationmonday #printshop #largeformatprinter #posters #banners #signs #stickers #andmore #doylestownprinter #doylestown #buckscountyprinter

Glass buttons; which are made in Czech Republic are made by taking hot glass rods and pressing it with a pair of long metal pliers. These pliers already have the metal mold shape set in them. It takes quite some time to be able to learn the way to press properly and not waste glass and also press hard enough to press the shape with that hot molten glass. It is a hard job to do all day long and you will need very strong arms, usually men perform this function. After the men are finished pressing the button one at a time, they put the glass buttons into a cool down area, on the side of the oven. Once they cool down, they bring them over to the machine to trim the edges of the over flow of the glass, off the button. They then bring the button over to the next machine to grind and polish the edge. If painting was requested, the button then goes to another button hut or a home of women who will be hand painting them. If silver backing is also requested, the buttons will then go to a small hut where they will put the buttons in metal trays upside down and spray the silver metal on the back. They will then be put into a kiln to bake the finishes on. ~ Buttons have been around a very long time. they are used for closures on capes, in jewelry, put on sweaters, coats, pants, shoes, etc. It is limitless. There are many types of of ways a button can be sewn on, depending on how many holes it has or what type of shank it has. A design on a button sometimes has story behind it as to why the creator designed it. The button stories are endless..... and as many people have said thru the year: "Button, Button, Who has the Button?" Well, we do! I go directly to these button pressers and have new buttons made using old pliers and sometimes I design my own shapes to be made in to new molds. I hope you enjoy a button or two in your life.
