With the NCAA expanding roster sizes in collegiate baseball, coupled with the new JUCO eligibility coming down the line and the transfer portal….high school athletes need to be prepared for how this will impact them. Our Pitching Director, Kevin Davis and pitching coordinator, Jon Beymer give their takes on how the NCAA expanded rosters will change the collegiate baseball landscape. Davis played at Olney CC before transferring to D1 Upstate University. Beymer played at Wabash CC before transferring to D1 Campbell University. Both continue to pitch professionally today and lean on these experiences to try to guide current HS baseball players on their journey with these new rules coming in. #canesillinois #travelbaseball #collegebaseball #pitchingcoach

In spite of winning the Program’s first championship, this is a new year and a new team so in order for the 24/25 Bosco Braves to be successful, they have to know who they are, what they’re playing for, and not settle for what was done last year. And having the returners share their expectations to new members as well as the lower levels of the program help to build a stronger foundation for the culture that is Braves baseball. What is your identity? #sportpsychology #teamculture

2021: 36.2% girls / 63.7% boys 2024: 49.3% girls / 50.4% boys (Every Kid Sports Pass program data) Reaching a near 50:50 goal is a challenge we all should take on. Learnings: - When we market sports to girls, we may just get their attention, their parents attention, grandparents, teachers, siblings, and so on AND we also get the boys attention too! The boys still come to play. - When we market to boys, we leave the girls AND the thought of girls playing behind. The girls are left on the sideline (their $$ too) - Families who do not have the means will traditionally put their boys in sports before the girls. Girls are more likely to bow out when there's a choice. - Sport facilities that offer multiple sports (i.e. basketball, football, soccer, dance, gymnastics, volleyball, softball) are more likely to grab the whole family. - When Every Kid Sports supports a girls (the whole family) to pay registration fees, the league, team, community are able to use those resources to offer secondary needs (i.e. uniforms, equipment, additional programs/teams, field maintenance, bathroom facilities, concessions, so on) Shout out & market the girls, we've only scratched the surface of possibility! You aren't leaving the boys out! Want to talk baseball/softball participation? 37.4% girls, up from 30.6%... so much potential to grow the game
“Baseball and softball are different sports, and we know some girls just want to play baseball. I was one of them." -Chelsey Falzone, Manager of Youth Engagement Girls belong in baseball. I started my day yesterday deciding I need to learn more about Jackie Robinson. Who knew that he played and lettered in 4 sports that were not baseball which, btw, he said was his worst sport? Who knew he moonlighted as a tennis player and won tournaments? Or that he played football? Or exercised his political preferences? His strength, talent, and guts were off the charts, and the post-sports career that he created was impressive, too. It's all in this piece.
