In my daring quest to see Africa level up with other continents (USA, Europe), I became curious when I saw this post today from Larry Madowo, then I asked myself a question, When will an African country host a Summit for other regions? Example: Kenya-Europe Summit, Uganda-Asia Summit or Liberia-USA Summit. This will help to boost our confidence to adequately present our country’s needs to our partners, instead of inviting us to go listen to them and they tell us what’s best for us. Let’s lead in managing our continent and its resources- for so long we have been following others and their patterns of development. Africa is a unique land with great potential and opportunities; only Africans will make the best of it to benefit the Africans.

AMOUDOKPO Edem Komi: Director of Togolese Abroad, M. SEDAMINOU Afognon Kouakou: Coordinator of the Diaspora Desk, Mme. GREGBE Amavi Mawoussi: Head of the Division of People and Property at the Directorate of Togolese Abroad, Mr. Amadou Cissé: Expert from the African Institute for Remittances (AIR). The primary objective of this exploratory mission was to discuss and explore potential partnerships regarding the technical establishment of the Togolese National Migration Observatory. Key topics of discussion included: - The importance of changing the narrative around migration to highlight the positive contributions of migrants and the diaspora to economic and social development. - The need for robust, country-specific data to inform analysis and enable sound, fact-based decision-making. - Sharing experiences on the impact of remittances and the contribution of the diaspora to economic and social development. - Effective management of migration flows. - Developing a comprehensive national migration observatory that will also focus on diaspora engagement and economic aspects. The meeting was highly productive and laid a solid foundation for future cooperation. THE BEAUTIFUL AFRICA WE MAY NOT SEE Africa, a continent rich in history, culture, and natural resources, has long been envisioned as a beacon of potential and prosperity. However, the dream of a "Beautiful Africa" seems elusive. ”Africa began to lose its unique beauty when it relied solely on Western perspectives to describe themselves”. The rich culture that once made Africa strong, united, and self-reliant was taken away in exchange for fleeting pleasures. Today, the continent is still haunted by disbelief, fear, anger, and the stress of past mistakes. How can we envision a better Africa for tomorrow if we continue to make the same unhealthy decisions? Africa Needs to; **Handle Its Affairs** An Africa that can independently manage its affairs is one that stands strong on the global stage, negotiating trade deals, and forming alliances that benefit its people. Africa has often been perceived as a continent unable to manage its own affairs, relying on Western interference in all its sectors. Even today, Africa remains entangled in the web of Western civilization, struggling to control its own affairs or believe in its capabilities to thrive independently. Africa needs the freedom to address its problems, foster development, and empower its people. By fostering homegrown solutions and innovations, Africa can take control of its destiny and ensure that its development agenda aligns with the needs and aspirations of its people. The 2nd edition of the "Diaspora Summit" took place last month in Berlin. This event brought together representatives of diaspora organisations and state institutions for dialogue and collaboration to strengthen the diaspora role as key actor in global transformation. Speaking at the summit, BMZ Head of Sub-Division "Displacement, Migration, Crisis prevention & Management " Elke Löbel, underlined the essential role of the diaspora in development cooperation and the importance of direct dialogue with the diaspora.   In its statement, the summit organisation team called for: 1️⃣ The transformation of voluntary work into full-time work 2️⃣ The long-term structural promotion of diaspora commitment 3️⃣ New contemporary forms of exchange between the diaspora and the German Government and 4️⃣ An enhancement of the scope of diaspora cooperation to include topics such as migration, integration, the environment and employment.   The Diaspora Summit is organised by several diaspora organisations and aims to strengthen networking within members of the diaspora engaged in development policy in Germany.
