This week on Luxury Unfiltered: "Lorenzo Quinn's 'Anime di Venezia,' a new benchmark in luxury" by Daniel André Langer, founder and CEO of consulting firm Équité. Recently, Mr. Langer had the opportunity to meet with Italian sculptor Anthony Quinn to learn about his new installation, 'Anime di Venezia,' a collection of 15 statues representing souls who helped shape the Venetian Republic. When scanned by a phone, these historical figures come to life and utter phrases unique to them, transcending time. "At its core, luxury is about creating experiences that resonate on a deeper, emotional level," Langer writes. "Mr. Quinn's installation exemplifies this by merging traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, creating a multi-sensory experience that is both timeless and innovative." "Bling Bling au Zoute" is very much a reflection of my personal relationship with luxury and abundance. It’s not a critique of an extravagant lifestyle, but rather an exploration of what lies beyond it — a gentle awakening to the fact that there are more precious things in life. The golden beach in the piece represents abundance, that feeling of plenty, of richness. The beach cabins in the distance are a symbol of this as well — they aren’t just simple shelters; they’re markers of expansive real estate, coveted spaces where luxury and exclusivity thrive. I wanted the richness of the gold tones to evoke that sense of opulence and material comfort, the things we often associate with success and a good life. But as the eye moves upward, toward the water and the horizon, there's a subtle shift. The sailboats, floating along the horizon, represent something more — a journey, perhaps, or a longing for freedom. They invite us to look past the material comforts, not to dismiss them, but to acknowledge that life offers more than what we can own or display. The sea and sky are vast, boundless, and they symbolize the spiritual wealth that comes from exploration, experiences, and a connection to something larger than ourselves. In this piece, I wanted to capture the balance between the beauty of abundance and the need to explore deeper meaning. It’s not about rejecting luxury — I appreciate the beauty in that, too — but recognizing that true wealth lies in the journey, the freedom to seek, and the connection to the world around us. It’s a reminder that while life’s comforts are wonderful, they’re not the only treasures worth pursuing. The luxury market has always looked to the rare and labour-intensive to signal status. Now though, ostentation is being rethought as the affluent pare back to bare, informing a stone age style that rejects the frenetic complexity of the modern world. At its heart, this story looks at growing global inequality and considers how it will shape future design directions, specifically in a luxury market that values stealth expressions of wealth over conspicuous consumption. This is also a story about control, where surroundings exude a reassuring solidity, offering protection from the outside world. Visually, plain is primal but elegant. Size plays a role, with visually impressive, outsized structures formed to subtly mark status.
