OCR Presents: How the Security Rule Can Help Defend Against Cyber-Attacks: The HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR) will be producing a pre-recorded webinar for HIPAA covered entities and business associates (collectively, “regulated entities”) discussing how the Security Rule can help regulated entities defend against cyber-attacks. The webinar will discuss real world cyber-attack trends from OCR breach reports and investigations and explore how implementation of appropriate HIPAA Security Rule safeguards can help detect and mitigate common cyber-attacks. I saw a rather eyebrow-raising piece of news in the headlines last week, as there was a cyberattack on CTS, the IT provider that allows hundreds of British law firms to access their case management systems. On 24 November, CTS announced that it was “experiencing a service outage which has impacted a portion of the services they deliver to some of their clients” and that the outage was caused by a “cyber-incident”. Thankfully, Coyle White Devine was not among the affected parties, but this still doesn’t make this news any less concerning! The hack also came just a few weeks after the British government failed to introduce legislation that would have required service providers like CTS to increase their cybersecurity protections. At the very least, CTS has noted that they were working closely with a leading global cyber forensics firm to help them with an urgent investigation into the incident and to assist them with the restoration of normal service. We can all only hope that this serves as a wake-up call for these service providers, as without legal services, I think we can all agree that the UK would fall into disrepair rather quickly. #CyberAttack #Justice #LawAndLegislation #Law #CWD

The US Supreme Court has overturned the 40-year-old “Chevron deference” doctrine, which previously allowed federal agencies to interpret ambiguous laws. This landmark decision will significantly impact regulatory enforcement and policymaking across various sectors, including cybersecurity.
