I am a huge proponent of healthy snacks. Some of my favorites include different combinations of: sliced veggies, hummus, hard boiled eggs, Greek yogurt, berries, nuts, peanut butter, and cheese. When working on an overall healthy lifestyle or managing a specific medical condition, there are many benefits to planned snacking as discussed in this article, in a way that reduces the chance of having that unpleasant feeling of being “starving,” such as: 🍎 More sustained focus over the course of the day 🥕Less overeating of food left in common areas in the workplace 🧀 Less purchasing of snacks high in fat, sugar, or salt 🌊 Ability to engage in more intuitive eating at meal time 🍐 Less late night junk food These are just a few examples! Certainly everyone has unique medical or general dietary needs to be discussed with their healthcare team.

👏Incredible news👏In 2022, all 11 hospitals in New York made plant-based meals the default - the results are incredible: 🍎1.2 million plant-based meals have now been served 🍎This cut carbon emissions by 36% 🍎Cost savings were 59 cents per meal 🍎Satisfaction rate over 90%. If patients want to choose meat, they can - but most opt for the plant-based default. An inspiring model that should be copied by other hospitals (and schools) the world over. How do they do it? "All meals are made from scratch at the health system’s Culinary Center in Brooklyn. The culinary team includes Food Service Associates at each hospital who take the patient’s food order, educate them about the flavor and nutrition of the day’s plant-based options, and gather patient feedback about the meal. New recipes are piloted as a “Chef’s Recommendation” and only enter the menu rotation if they achieve an 80% patient satisfaction rate or above.
