Many clinicians believe that malnutrition and obesity are mutually exclusive. However, researchers have identified sarcopenic obesity, which is the perfect storm of reduced lean muscle mass, increased fat stores, inflammation, and numerous metabolic complications. Share this graphic to spread the word - all patients with sarcopenia and malnutrition need nutrition intervention, regardless of body size.

The causes of obesity are way more complex than eating poorly and not working out.

I always championed the nutritional support of people with obese BMIs in ICU. Thankfully it became less of a controversy as the years passed!
