Saudi SAMI under MOD Saudi Minister of Defense Prince Khaled Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz was appointed last week (28/2/2024) as Head of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI). He replaced Ahmad Al-Khateeb who has been heading SAMI since its inception in 2017. Although the move is very significant, it makes things confusing in terms of decision-making. SAMI is a company owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) - a Saudi sovereign fund. Naming the defense minister at the head of it, along with his two assistants Khaled Al-Bayari and Talal Al-Otaibi as members in the Board, does that mean that SAMI is now placed under the direction (or control) of the Ministry of Defense (MOD)? What is the role of PIF in this case? Does it lose control over SAMI or is it still part of the management? Does the existence of two PIF officials on SAMI board have any significance? All these questions can be cleared by MOD officials, PIF or SAMI executives, but it's worth mentioning that SAMI could not act at any time without referring to the MOD. So, it might be a logical move to shorten the decision-making process and put it directly in the hands of the MOD. However, being logical is not enough. The move should make a difference and produce the required results. Hope time will prove this.

Tawazun Council has signed four contracts on behalf of the Ministry of Defence with local companies In the final day of the Dubai Airshow 2023, Tawazun Council, a government entity working closely with the UAE Ministry of Defence, signed 10 deals with both local and international companies totaling AED1.415 billion ($383 million). As a result, the total value of the company's transactions has reached 23.1 billion AED ($6.28 billion).
