Twin trasition is a cross-cutting goal that European policies aim to accomplish through delivering simultaneous ecological and digital performance of territorial socio-economic systems. We investigate the impact of institutional quality on two proxies of ecological and two proxies of digital transition. The analysis is conducted over the italian provinces and exploits the Spatial Durbin Model estimator to capture spillover effects of both dependent and independent variables. FINDINGS show that while institutions matter for ecological goals, this result does not hold for digital goals which have other drivers such as the presence of scientific universities in the province. Moreover, we use data from ReGiS database on the number of NRRP projects granted at provincial level and understand that institutions play a role in pushing the ability to catch grants.
