If you are the kind of friend who freely gives of your time and always shows consideration for others, your friends will be generous and kind. If you are the kind of person who takes your friends for granted, neither giving nor expecting much in return, you will attract friends who exhibit the same qualities. In friendship, like attracts like. Assess your behavior occasionally to determine what kind of friend you are. Are you the kind of person you would like to have as a friend? Do you freely give more than you expect in return, or are you always asking and never giving? Do you take the time to stay in touch, to remember friends' special occasions? If you wish to create a positive response in others, you do so by example and through the art of gentle persuasion, not by daring them to attack. When you work with others, concentrate on their positive attributes, not on the things they dislike or fear. When you take the time to get to know your associates, to learn about their hopes, dreams, and aspirations, you can determine what motivates them. You can then show them how they can align their goals with yours to work together for your mutual advantage. When I grow up I want to be brave. Francis, UT. 2024 In my art, I try to see the world through the eyes of children. This photo is a reflection of that—a way for me to engage with the world differently, with curiosity and wonder. Photography allows me to challenge what I think I know about life, people, animals, and nature. Photographing children, in particular, has given me the chance to revisit my perspective on life. As I grow older, I think more about raising a family and the kind of life I want for myself. My art gives me the space to reflect on those questions, even as I navigate living further from my mom, being estranged from my father, and dealing with the challenges that adulthood inevitably brings. These experiences weigh on me at times, but when I photograph children, I find a chance to reconnect with the curiosity and potential that once seemed so abundant. When you know what you plan to do with your life, you will not allow annoying situations to deter you from your goals for long. Being objective when criticizing our friends, family members, and business associates is easy. Still, being honest about our shortcomings is far more complex. Only when we recognize that we are all human, with the same faults and failings, do we begin to develop that incredible quality of tolerance that enables us to accept others as they are and ask nothing in return. Replacing fault-finding with “good-finding” is never easy.
