I came across an article from Business Insider today, a publication I appreciate for its thorough research and insightful content. Titled 'A national shortage of construction workers is driving high home prices. The industry is struggling to fill the gap' authored by Eliza Relman and Madison H.. In their piece, Relman and Hoff conducted interviews with five experts representing different fields within the US construction industry: John Smith, CEO of Smith Construction Company Emily Johnson, Chief Engineer at Johnson Builders Inc. Michael Thompson, President of Construction Operations at Thompson & Sons Inc. Sarah Garcia, Director of Human Resources at Garcia Construction Group David Wilson, Vice President of Sustainable Development at Wilson Construction Company Services. Surprisingly, none of the experts mentioned 3D concrete printing as a potential solution, which I found baffling. As someone involved in the 3D concrete printing industry, I know firsthand the challenges we face in developing this technology. However, I believe one of our top priorities should be spreading the idea that this is a revolutionary technology that can transform the industry. Despite the challenges we face in developing the technology, it's crucial to make more people believe in its potential. Thrilled to announce the official launch of the #STELEC Horizon Europe project! 🌐 The #STELEC project will be the serious step to breakthrough in the smart textiles topic! 🔍 The project aims to develop circuit technologies for e-textiles that are based on materials that minimize environmental impact, are compatible with the life-cycle of “normal” textiles to facilitate easy re-use in the spirit of circular economy and can be produced (and recycled) in an energy efficient way. The main breakthroughs with respect to the current state of technology will be in three areas:  (1) A combination of digital inkjet, 3D printing and atmospheric plasma to produce sustainable textile electronics building blocks from environmentally friendly materials.  (2) Going beyond embedding electronics in textile structures on substrate and layer levels as is state of the art today, and using fibrous materials (enriched with electronic properties as stipulated above) as such to create electronic components such as transistors, capacitors etc. and combine them into more complex circuits.  (3) Comprehensive, lifecycle-oriented model of the environmental impact of such e-textile technologies and their applications. Toward industrial revolution 4.0: Development, validation, and application of 3D-printed IoT-based water quality monitoring system Recent technological advances and developments have evolved the application of the Internet of Things (IoT), low-cost sensors, and three-dimensional (3D) printing for near-real-time water quality monitoring; however, these technologies have not yet been widely implemented in field operations. In this study, a solar-powered 3D-printed IoT-based water quality monitoring system (WQMS) that measures turbidity and water level every 2 h was developed and utilized in a palm oil plantation on Carey Island, Malaysia, for two months . The WQMS consists of four modules: energy, time, monitoring, and communication. The electrical consumption values of the WQMS in the standby, operating, and data transmission modes were calculated to determine the optimal monitoring frequency. The monitored data were uploaded to Ambient (an open cloud platform) for visualization and anomaly detection. The turbidity and ultrasonic water level sensors were calibrated and validated, and high linearities (R2 > 0.97) were obtained between the signal received and the actual measurements. The turbidity sensor provided an accurate measurement of turbidity within a range of 10–1000 FNU, whereas the optimum measurement range of the water level sensor was determined to be 2–400 cm. From the field study results, it can be observed that the contact-type sensor (for turbidity) requires monthly maintenance to prevent the deposition of mud/silt and biofouling problems, whereas the non-contact sensor (for water level) can consistently provide accurate measurements throughout a period of at least two months. The proposed WQMS implemented demonstrates the effective integration of IoT with 3D printing, microcomputers, and low-cost sensors, paving a new path for the development of cost-effective and reliable systems for water quality monitoring.
