Get on board with decarbonising the Midlands Aerospace cluster.    🛫 To achieve net zero business operations by 2050, the aerospace supply chain must identify the key manufacturing processes and operations that contribute to GHG emissions and engage with local expertise to develop and test a credible place based industrial decarbonisation plan.    We are launching the Decarbonising the Midlands Aerospace Cluster (DMAC) project online on the 26th of March (9:30-10:30). The project team will regularly share insights and strategies with the broader Midlands aerospace cluster, serving as a practical blueprint for other companies to follow confidently. Good and balanced panel which I was delighted to support this morning, in which we:- ·     identified SAF as the main fuel pathway to 2050; ·     welcomed mandates and revenue certainty mechanisms; ·     called for ambition beyond 2030 and globally for success; ·     discussed efficiency and its global impact via our products such as UltraFan; ·     identified the urgent need to unlock so-called externalities (‘the 70%’); ·    discussed hydrogen as feedstock (essential to the energy transition in aviation) and hydrogen technology distinctly. ‘Green electrons’ were another common theme all morning, and a ‘zero regret’ action to start now to allow the scaling of future fuels as well as decarbonise the nation. Clear options are available, which greater certainty will help unlock and/or accelerate, such that new fuels become available which can be used efficiently in high-power-density gas turbines. 🍃

Harry Malins, Chief Innovation Officer at the Aerospace Technology Institute joins the panel at Innovation Zero Aviation and Shipping Forum: Moving from R&D to commercial reality. Accelerating the adoption of ultra-efficient and zero-carbon emission aircraft technologies will be key to achieving Net Zero 2050 and securing UK market share. Harry said: "The enabling conditions have to be in place across infrastructure, energy and the aerospace ecosystem. The ATI's Hydrogen Capability Network is working to bring industry, government and academia together to create the right conditions to develop and bring into reality advanced hydrogen aircraft technologies at pace." Reflecting on recent progress, Harry added: "We launched our SME Programme and have seen a significant amount of interest from the aerospace ecosystem on developing technologies to address the decarbonisation challenge which reflects the strength and depth of the aerospace supply chain in the UK."
