Finland is an arctic high-tech NATO country with a vast amount of know-how and technology to strengthen our common defence. Deepening cooperation with the U.S. opens up new possibilities, especially for dual-use and New Defence industries. Under Secretary Shyu recently led a delegation to meet U.S. and Finnish leaders stationed in Helsinki to celebrate Finland joining the NATO Alliance, and to strengthen the bilateral science and technology (S&T) cooperative relationship between the United States Department of Defense and the Finnish Ministry of Defence (MOD).   During her visit, Shyu and Director General Tarja Jakkola, deputy director-general of the Resource Policy Department, signed the U.S.– Finland Critical Technologies Working Group into effect. The working group intends to foster and promote collaboration on defense S&T, with a focus on R&E’s 14 critical technology areas.  In addition, the delegation met with Finnish industry partners to learn about Finland’s specific technical capabilities, further enabling discussions with the Finnish MOD on how the two nations can work together to strengthen our technological edge.
