This is a good and fair practice that Singaporeans should get used to. People make multiple reservations especially during festive occasions so that they can choose one and play out the rest at the last minute with no consequence. Such selfish behavior not only plays out the restaurant; it deprives others of a chance to make a reservation. This practice of charging for no-show should be supported.

Singapore’s restaurant business saw over 2,000 closures in 2023. Many openings are still happening without a proper plan, and enough cash flow reserve, or many restaurants do not lock in for additional or alternative revenue. From the Straits Times correspondent Tan Hsueh Yun, "Restaurant owners, who spent three years pivoting furiously, were supposed to be able to breathe a little easier. No more dining restrictions. Tourists will come flooding in. Everything is going to be fine". As the economy faces uncertainties and consumer behaviours shift, restaurant sales have begun to slow down. Factors such as fluctuating consumer confidence, rising costs (F&B costs, Labour, Energy and Lease), and increased competition contribute to this deceleration. Additionally, evolving dining preferences, including a preference for home-cooked meals or healthier options, have impacted restaurant patronage. The slowdown prompts restaurant owners to reassess their strategies, focusing on innovation, cost management, and marketing efforts to adapt to the changing landscape and reignite customer interest in dining out.
