Theorist of digital and AI cultures / Author of 17 books on AI aesthetics, digital art, media theory, digital humanities and cultural analytics / Presidential Professor, Graduate Center, City University of New York
In the early 2000s I was working on the book called Info-Aesthetics. If modern artists created new aesthetics for the new industrial mass society (in early decades of the 20th century), what will be the new aesthetics (and artistic forms) of a new imfirmation (later: data - and now: data plus AI - society? I did not finish the book. But still wondering about it. As many people pointed out, generative AI is perfectly “post-modern,” allowing you to simulate all styles and content from human cultural history. And maybe this is the “new” meta-remix aesthetics of our time? Second part of the 19th century was also about historicism and ecckectidm, at least in architecture… But I want something else.

Aldous Huxley, 1928, introduction to "Printing of To-Day": "The sensible thing to do is not to revolt against the inevitable, but to use and modify it, to make it serve your purposes. Machines exist; let us exploit them to create beauty--a modern beauty, while we are about it. For we live in the twentieth century; let us frankly admit it and not pretend we live in the fifteenth." cc: Lev Manovich

As companies become more digital, they generate large amounts of data, known as big data. For big data to effectively control operations or develop and monetize digital business models, it must be complete, centralized, and high-quality. This ensures it accurately reflects real circumstances, enabling reliable analyses, forecasts, and efficient operational control. However, big data is often just raw data. Its value increases significantly when it is shared across a company and used in data analytics, transforming it into crucial information that drives a data-driven organization. Lets meet at #Drupa2024 and unfold your digital potential
🎬 Welcome to Episode 5 of our 'Road to drupa' series, where we're unfolding the vast digital potential within the printing industry. 3D Printing Professional | Research Associate at TUM | Laser Sintering ... You want faster ⏱, cheaper 📈, and reliable 🎯 build jobs? → 📩
Excited to share my latest research on using machine learning to predict porosity in laser sintering! 🔬 Challenge: Achieving precise control in laser sintering is crucial for ensuring the structural integrity of components. Complexities in part geometry, scan strategies, and laser parameters all play a role, impacting the melt pool's temperature and ultimately, the reproducibility of part properties. Our Solution: We developed a machine learning model to predict porosity in printed parts based on real-time temperature data captured during processing. This, combined with 3D digital twins, allows us to pinpoint the exact location, size, and shape of hidden defects. Here's what this means for the future of our research: - Enhanced Quality Assurance: We're validating our solution for industrial use, enabling real-time defect detection and process control. - Optimized Printing Processes: We want to automatically adjust parameters between layers to prevent defects before they occur! - Faster Innovation: We aim to modify our model to accelerate the discovery of suitable printing parameters for new powder materials. What are your thoughts? How can we further improve and apply this research? Share your ideas in the comments! Huge thanks to my co-authors: Ziqi Li, Kirsten Taphorn, Julia Herzen, and Katrin Wudy. #additivemanufacturing #3dprinting #machinelearning #digitaltwin #polymers You can find the link to the full paper in the comments.

📖 If you don't know what to read this evening, I recommend this paper 😀 Great work linking the process signature in powder bed fusion of plastics with part properties. This is the first step to control the process in the future 🚀

Wye Print | PrintVis | Modern MIS to Grow Profits for Printers and Packaging| Print Industry Innovator | Information Technology | Print Management
A.I. presents an interesting path in not just the print industry but most will be affected by it, but not in the way most people think. Throughout the ages there have been improvements in every aspect of putting ink on a substrate. Gone are the days of having to type set a complete piece by hand with brass, or physically laying out and photographing sheets for film. Every time those jobs have evolved, the process and quality has improved. The same is going to be true with the inclusion of A.I. in the industry. It may evolve to the point where you can ask CoPilot to handle a page layout for you, but with Microsoft building copilot in to their offerings we're already seeing benefits in analyzing data, writing letters and to some extent even planning schedules. The thing about A.I. (at least in its current state) is that it's still only as good as the information that goes in to it.
🌐 The future of print is here, and it's powered by Artificial Intelligence! From automating workflows to enhancing creativity, AI is transforming the printing industry. Discover how AI is not just a tool but a game-changer for print professionals. 🚀📈 Read more about this innovative journey in our latest research report ⬇️ 🔗 https://bit.ly/3zpkdtY #PRINTINGUnitedAlliance #ArtificialIntelligence
