Where does your engineering team stand on DORA metrics? The Jackpocket software development team wanted to know that, too, so they implemented Sleuth to find out. Now, they know exactly where they stand AND where they're making progress. #DORAmetrics #softwaredevelopment #engineering

Interesting thread on ycombinator news around the habits of great software engineers. The top post by onion2k resonates IMO…tldr; -people-focused approach, -constant thought of the end user…”is this making their life easier?” -obsess over making their code fail elegantly, -ensure systems are strongly robust, -thinks about failure states deeply, -able to make tradeoffs…”hey, this is good enough” rather than making it perfect at the cost of time, -maintaining the balance of what’s needed vs what’s interesting. What do you think? #softwareengineers #greathabits #ycombinator

Nikola Malinovic, our software engineer, stirred the waters by delving into trunk-based development—a departure from the conventional Gitflow. He highlights the benefits of trunk-based development and explains why it is simpler and more efficient (in most cases, not all) than Gitflow. Would you like to know what other conclusion Nikola and our crew reached? We often overlook one of the most critical components of a Product: Developer Documentation. Documentation is critically related to the developer experience in several key ways: - Good documentation acts as a roadmap, making your product accessible and easier to implement. - Comprehensive guides and clear examples reduce the need for repeated support calls. - Well-documented products encourage community contributions, feedback, and a strong developer ecosystem. - Clear documentation is a sign of reliability, encouraging developers to continue using your platform and services. I guess I'll have fun, Addy Osmani 🙂 #devX #OwnID

This week I was manually testing a user flow. It didn't work as expected. I'm still onboarding on my new team, so I communicated the blocker and the actions I was going to take. This gave enough visibility to a tenured engineer in my team to teach me how to debug with our dependencies. It allowed me to follow up with a couple of other teams with proper debugging and find the root cause. This self-awareness and communication is important to unblock yourself. If you want to know the 3 stages of being blocked, continue reading: https://lnkd.in/dayxbq4m #careergrowth #softwareengineers
