💡 Debunking Myths: The True Role of the Board in Fundraising 💡 In the nonprofit sector, we often hear three prevalent myths about board fundraising that can hold organizations back: Myth 1: Board members should focus solely on governance. While governance is crucial, fundraising is equally vital. Every board member should see themselves as a key player in the organization’s financial health, not just as decision-makers. Myth 2: Board members aren’t comfortable asking for money. Many board members shy away from fundraising because they think it means directly asking for large donations. However, fundraising is about much more—connecting staff with potential donors, hosting events, and providing feedback on strategies are all essential contributions! Myth 3: A board member’s only role is to make a personal donation. Yes, personal contributions are important, but board members have a larger role in building and strengthening the donor base through active participation in fundraising activities. How do we shift our mindset to view board members as vital partners in fundraising? What strategies can we implement to help our boards feel more comfortable engaging in these activities? ✨ Share your experiences! What strategies have worked for you in engaging your board members in fundraising? What obstacles have you faced? Let’s learn from each other’s successes and failures!
