❓ Ever wondered, how #virtualreality could revolutionize structural analysis? Experience high-fidelity #structural_analysis in VR! Check out this #app created by the RBF Morph team! The goal of this app is to support design decisions to get an optimal mass budget of a CubeSat. The size of the windows and the thickness of the plate can be changed interactively with the stress updated real time. The solution shown in the video is available for #MetaQuest3, no wire connections required, no controllers. Free hands interactions. It features an #AI based digital model of the structural analysis with 1% precision compared with the full FEA high fidelity computations. The data to train the AI are generated combining #Ansys Mechanical FEA solver and RBF Morph Structures. Data compression is performed with Ansys #TwinBuilder. Data exchange happens using FMUs (functional mock-up units). The RBF Morph Stand Alone translates the interactive model to the VR App.

Within the research world, Gaussian splats have proven to be an unexpected breakthrough to empower realistic, data-driven 3d models. I can't wait to see these techniques integrated into real systems. My guess is that Meta will be a pioneer here — in particular, that within the next couple of years, we'll see realistic avatars available through their VR line. This isn't such a wild guess. Meta has been releasing a series of increasingly impressive avatar demos and papers. They provided a VR-based interview with Mark Zuckerberg in September 2023 — calling it the "first interview in the metaverse." Learn & Burn has covered some key research within Meta supporting these avatars. A previously covered paper provided new ways to accurately model moving bodies with independently-modeled clothes (to render things like realistic wrinkles, and non-frozen cloth material). More recently, toward the end of 2023, a newer paper covered highly realistic face rendering. One thing I want to emphasize about this research is that these avatars are "data-driven" in the sense that they're typically based on 2d images and 2d video. So, once we have the AI-based (optimization-alg-based) methods to go from 2d-to-3d, then we can enable consumers to build their own models, such as their own avatars. This is part of the breakthrough. The newer paper is motivated by the fact that we notice a *lot* about human faces. It's the most important part of the avatar. So the standard Gaussian splat model is modified by a special component that knows how to encode and render a facial expression that's been vectorized from images of a real person's expression. The modifications support not only a highly nuanced range of facial expressions, but also the ability to relight the scene at will — an ability that the original splatting method was not designed for. This is a massive step forward in realism. Volumetric capture of a live scene, visualized using Gaussian splatting. This means you can walk around this incredibly realistic scene using virtual or augmented reality.
We're proud to showcase some real-time work with 3D / 4D Gaussian splatting. In January of 2024 we acquired a full 3DGS commercial license with Inria to allow us to offer 4DGS services to clients around the world. We've spent the last 10 months developing our custom 4DGS software pipeline, utilizing our own Nvidia GPU cluster to batch process 100,000's of 4DGS frames rapidly, combined with our state-of-the-art custom built volumetric capture system(s). We can capture anything from complex character interactions for visual effects shots, or dynamic fast fighting scenes, sports, acting, even capturing and storing memories of family and friends for the future! The possibilities are endless. Our focus is always on high-quality and high-fidelity. We don't cut corners and we're continually striving to learn and improve. The below video showcases some 6-dof spatial captures we took of Henry Pearce's family. These scenes are played back in real-time @30fps inside a 3rd party engine running in a 120fps virtual environment. This is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication and we are keen to commercialize this technology with you. Please do reach out if you're interested in our capture systems or our 3D/4DGS processing services.
