Connecting Data Silos - The Next Frontier for Ecommerce Here’s a question: How can brands and ecommerce leaders effectively break down data silos to create more unified customer profiles? The ability to connect disparate data sources - both first and third party - feels like the next frontier in personalized digital commerce. Just look at how effectively Amazon uses its robust shopper data within its walled garden to power recommendations and tailored experiences. Now the challenge for multifaceted brands is determining how to mesh insights from owned properties, ad platforms like Amazon DSP, offline purchases, and more. Combining these signals could allow for granular customization and real-time decision-making to deepen customer loyalty. But how do you take the insights gleaned and connect them back to your own customer data? How do you build engagement on YOUR site that rivals the personalization of Amazon? These are the tough questions every e-tailer is wrestling with. Or at least I think they should, if they want to keep their competitive edge int he years to come. Are the Joint Business Plans on the brink of extinction? #JBP is an essential enabler of retail + supplier partnership. #ECommerce is still in the early stages of JBP evolution and adoption. However, I believe that E-Com JBPs are at risk of becoming obsolete. The current JBP evolution stage leaves much to be desired: ▪️ It overlooks shoppers and consumers ▪️ Supply chain excellence, the backbone of e-commerce, is only partly in focus ▪️ Data partnerships didn't even make it to the top, according to Profitero research. ▪️ There's no focus on ROI/ROAS ▪️ No digital shelf focus outside search, despite the fact that shopper missions can vary and lead to different consumer journeys and expectations So, what's next for JBPs? They will evolve into AI-driven Business Plans, let’s name the new entity AdBPs. #AI is growing exponentially and, unlike humans, can fully utilize the big data available on both retailer and manufacturer levels. #Amazon is already shifting negotiations to be led by AI. Other top retailers, manufacturers, and suppliers will follow. In my #vision of the future, the next step is full-scale AdBPs, where AI talks to AI: ▪️Develops Big Data-driven business plans ▪️Taking into account available resources ▪️Sets goals & KPIs to responsible teams ▪️With execution action plans & timings ▪️Including the #retailmedia activation ▪️Plans organization changes ahead ▪️Setups governance processes ▪️Adjusts according to reality All that assuring a win-win solution.
