Lifetime Learner|Offering a non-social, tech-only knowledge base to help those in Information Technology stay current and learn about new solutions, risks, and opportunities.
I enjoy reading and learning as we curate business technology information for my tech-only knowledge base, Teckedin.com. For example, this article in CIO Influence, is one that we chose to include in our knowledge base. "The significance of big data collection and analytics is increasing at a rapid pace. According to IBM, a staggering 90% of the world’s data has been generated in the past two years alone. This exponential growth in data holds profound implications across various industries, underlining the need for data analysis. Organizations leverage big data to drive informed decision-making, innovate products and services, and address complex challenges." #data #privacy #analytics #ITmanagement #datamanagement https://lnkd.in/gWK7mjDr

🚀📊 Tackling biased data collection is crucial for data scientists to ensure accurate insights and fair outcomes. Bias in data can skew results, leading to incorrect conclusions and perpetuating inequalities. As data becomes increasingly central to decision-making, it’s vital to recognize and address these biases. Yesterday after attending the Women in Data Science (WiDS) Worldwide event at Mastercard organised by Mastercard AI Garage , My interest in these Dataset leveled up the curiosity to learn more ✨ Amruta Rokade Nishtha Madaan Lipika Dey Maneet Singh and many other speakers who motivated me to adopt all these ideas and learn more skills to be at top ✨ Here are some essential resources to help in identifying and mitigating bias in their datasets: 1. Understanding Bias Types : Different types of biases can affect data collection, such as selection bias, confirmation bias, and sampling bias. Familiarize yourself with these to spot potential issues early. 2. Diverse Data Sources : Ensure that data is collected from a wide range of sources and demographics. This helps in creating a more representative dataset, reducing the likelihood of bias. 3. Bias Detection Tools : Utilize tools and frameworks designed to detect bias in data. Tools like IBM’s AI Fairness 360, Google’s What-If Tool, and Fairlearn can be instrumental in analyzing datasets for potential biases. 4. Ethical Guidelines : Follow ethical guidelines and standards, such as those provided by organizations like the Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency in Machine Learning (FAT/ML). These guidelines offer best practices for ethical data collection and analysis. 5. Continuous Monitoring : Bias can creep in at any stage of the data lifecycle. Regularly audit and monitor your data and models to ensure they remain unbiased over time. 6. Community and Peer Review : Engage with the data science community. Peer reviews and collaborations can provide new perspectives and insights into potential biases that might have been overlooked. By integrating these practices, data scientists can significantly reduce bias in their data collection processes, leading to more accurate, fair, and inclusive outcomes. Let’s build a fairer data-driven world together! 🌍🔍 #DataScience #BiasInData #InclusiveData #Datasets #DataAnalyst Stay proactive and make fairness a priority in your data projects! 🧠💡

Julie Smith, Director of Data and Analytics at Alation, discusses key aspects of data literacy, governance, workplace diversity, and inclusion in a video interview with Robert Lutton, VP of Sandhill Consultants and Editorial Board Vice Chair at CDO Magazine Data literacy, as Smith explains, plays a crucial role in facilitating AI adoption. Understanding data interpretation and AI's impact builds trust, and demystifying AI requires enhancing data literacy among individuals, including developers and data scientists Moreover, Smith emphasizes data governance as an enabler, aligning definitions and standards to enhance data understanding, quality, and integration. While compliance is essential, transparency and inclusion of data experts are critical for effective governance implementation In addressing workplace diversity and inclusion, Smith acknowledges existing gender disparities and advocates for increased representation. She underscores the importance of people and empathy in driving cultural change, emphasizing the need for experts to engage and communicate effectively with diverse audiences 📣 🚀 Here are my favorite takeaways from Lutton and Smith from 5:30 and 6:45 : “We know there needs to be a general uplift across the organization of this knowledge of data to be able to be beneficial of the whole organization !” - “Data governance is an enabler. By aligning definitions, allowing to understand data, where it is coming from, the consistency standards, it makes it easier to work with data. It is not all about compliance, regulations and policies !” CDO Magazine Series # 1️⃣ 0️⃣ #dataliteracy #datagovernance #diversityandinclusion __________________________ Find the full interview here :

Executive Strategist, Problem Solver, Collaborator, and Speaker on the topics of Customer Experience, Analytics & Innovation
"Data Is Destiny; Trends You Need To DO SOMETHING About" was a terrific conversation as we closed out the 20th year of the Digital Solutions Gallery at The Ohio State University. Once again we were informed and educated by Bruce Barnes and Thornton May (who as always also entertains)...followed by industry experts Salema Rice (CDO, CDO Today), Greg Keeling (Dir of Ethics, BMO) and Stephan Chase (Founder, Chase Intel). Key takeaways include: 1-Intelligent is not the default! 2-Data is not just destiny. It is your opportunity. 3-We live in a world defined by data. Our ability to use and receive that data is stone age. 4-Data is KING, only if you can UNLOCK it! 5-Information credibility is one of our most significant challenges. 6-We need to listen to and manage the data narrative 7-Is your management team being briefed weekly on how data is being used and managed? If not, they should be. 8-"Data Management has to be rebranded as joyous work!" - Sumathi Thiyagarajan 9-We lack data about data. 10-Not all data has equal importance. Do you know what your most critical data and what state it is in? If not, use Decision Modeling to connect the dots between your data and your most critical business decisions. 11-Are you doing data better than your competitors? How do you know? Most don't know. 12-Everybody is ready for AI except your data! If your data is not ready for AI, your AI won’t be effective. 13-Today's CDO not only looks different, but they think very differently. OCM is a critical skill for today’s CDO. 14-Culture is #1 challenge for CDOs. 15-There is a global shortage if skilled AI and data resources. 16-Machines do not care. People do. 17-Relationships, business and personal, are built on trust. Introducing a new role, the CTO (Chief Trust Officer). 18-Why is there data disinterest in many companies? Because data is usually not why a company became successful. It is not how they got where they are. 19-Make sure that you find an important business problem that someone cares about solving - even better if that someone has the budget. 20-Spend the time to understand the problem you are solving. Do not answer the wrong question. Link to session recording: https://shorturl.at/fLZ37 Thanks as always to our sponsors Stafford Technology, Insight and Narwal for making this session possible! We'll see you again in 2024 for the 21st season of the Digital Solutions Gallery! And thanks to all of our attendees, some of whom shared these kind compliments: -"This is sheer brilliance." -"Asking questions is a sign of an effective change leader, who has the fortitude to question the status quo... thanks for a thought-provoking session today." -"Thanks for an amazing season. Always great insights."

Chief Technology Officer | Operational Optimization Expert | Innovation Culture | Driving Top-Line Growth
The research from New Vantage Partners reveals that organizations are struggling to become data-driven, with many giving up on their journeys. The Chief Data Officer (CDO) plays a crucial role in this, but their effectiveness is questionable. Cultural barriers, not technology, are the biggest challenge to realizing business value. However, CDOs prioritize technology investments over cultural investments, exacerbating the problem. To address this, organizations must prioritize AI and data literacy throughout the entire organization. This includes understanding data privacy, Marketing technologies and techniques, making informed decisions, statistics, value engineering, and creating a culture of empowered data science citizens. Data literacy is the foundation for creating a data-driven culture. #AI #datadriven #dataliteracy #martech #customerdata #cdp
