Helping Cybersecurity Teams Understand and Communicate Risk from a Business Impact Perspective| Veteran | ex-Nuclear Engineer
Istio uses Envoy proxy as a Pod sidecar to which the application delegates networking responsibilities like the inbound and outbound traffic, but there’s one responsibility that still belongs to the app container: header propagation. The Envoy proxy cannot correlate the requests it sends to the app to those the app is responding to, so the headers cannot be automatically propagated by Istio. In most cases, headers-based routing would require app developers to implement header forwarding. This drives us to a question: How can platform admins use headers-based routing without modifying the application’s internals? #envoy #istio #traffic

Google may listen if there is some noise around this. A couple of weeks ago, my friend Amruth Balbail tweeted that he had difficulty finding the platform number at which the BMTC bus will stop at Kempegowda bus stand in Bengaluru. He knew the Bus number but not the platform number. To my surprise, it is indeed true, and I don't understand why would any PM descope this helpful feature in maps. I couldn't find the answer to how many people start their journey from the Bengaluru bus stand daily. I did some math, taking some liberty in my assumptions and personal experience. -Bus Frequency: A bus arrives at each platform every 40 minutes. -Bus Capacity: Each bus can hold around 70 people. -Operating Hours: The buses run from 6 am to 10 pm. -Terminals/platform: Around 60 This gives me some 100,800. In my opinion, even if 15k people out of these find it inconvenient, Google should incorporate this feature in their maps. Also, there is an app in the Google Play Store with about 10k downloads at this time of writing. So this is a second validation that this is important to have in maps. I know for sure that if I tag them on Twitter, one of their bots will send me a link to add further details, and their team will look into it. But instead of heading into data entry, I would rather spend time building this myself, so I did. I wanted to be extremely frugal and not spend too much time < 6hrs. I wanted the app to have no ads, logins, or registrations and be platform agnostic. Here is the link to the app: https://lnkd.in/eKchcJZt After building this, in retrospect, I am not satisfied because the end user shouldn't transition between apps for such a simple piece of information. The real win will be when Google understands the importance of this feature and incorporates it into maps. They need to do 2 things: 1. Include the platform/terminal number next to the bus number 2. Show platform numbers in the maps Google sounds good? It would be helpful if you could tag the right people who can take action on this. #googlemaps #google #bengaluru
