This paper aims to demystify certain misconceptions regarding the "energy transition" and to shed light on the role of European lobbying in the development of renewable energy projects and the associated regulatory framework. It also seeks to highlight the inherent risks of these projects, often presented as an absolute good, without considering the environmental and social impacts they may entail, while primarily serving multinational energy actors at the expense of local populations. Intuitively it makes sense that microgrids are a good idea. There are many of us that want that to be the case and for good reason. They have the potential to bolster local resilience, increase utilisation of renewable energy sources and give a sense of autonomy back to communities. One of BSGIP’s most substantial pieces of research is drawing to a close. The Southcoast microgrid Reliability Feasibility (SµRF) project is a $3.1 m transdisciplinary project that explores the challenges and benefits of microgrids within an Australian context. Set within the New South Wales south coast shire of Eurobodalla, a region devastated by the 2019-2020 Black Summer, the project took a deep dive into this technology and how it could be integrated into today’s complex and multifaceted energy system. A core strength of BSGIP is that we get to work with industry. As a result, the findings from our research reflect the current state of play, not an idealised version of what the energy system could look like at best. This article focuses on two recently published reports; a technical report that lays out a number of scenarios using real-world data applied to selected sites, and a social science report examining governance, social and regulatory issues under the current system. Research led by researchers at the Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST) in China has led to the development of silicon-based #solarcells thinner than a sheet of A4 paper. Researchers from Australia's Curtin University and China-based LONGi Green #Energy Technology also contributed to this development. Silicon-based #solar cells are being used abundantly to transition our energy demand from fossil fuels to more sustainable solar energy. Costs of deploying solar cells have consistently fallen in the past few decades, making it easier to deploy them at scale. https://lnkd.in/esmqjHNP

🔬 Methodology and Research Approach Our Research Methodology: Controlled Environment: Digesters immersed in a controlled environment at 37°C to simulate optimal conditions. Initial Seeding: Seeded with stabilized sludge and petrochemical wastewater (PWW) with a Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) of 3000 mg/L. Incremental Testing: Incremental NH4HCO3 concentrations up to 40 mg/L were tested to determine optimal dosing. ⚡New report on Energy System Integration! The European Commission published a new study, which analyses #energy system integration through the increased role of #renewables and waste heat, electrification and clean hydrogen. 🎯 The main objective of this study is to assess the progress of energy system integration in the EU by looking into existing barriers as well as identifying solutions and providing recommendations to address these barriers. In particular, it analyses three topics in-depth: electrification of end-uses (with a specific focus on transport, industry, #buildings) and decentralised renewable energy integration, uptake of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen, and utilisation of waste heat.  Reducing fossil fuel use in buildings is the clear priority target for the buildings sector, through the combination of two approaches: ▪️By improving the #energyperformance of buildings, which is achieved through 1) energy efficiency measures to improve insulation and 2) increased use of high-efficiency household appliances and heating equipment. ▪️ By replacing fossil-fuel heating systems with low-carbon energy sources. With increasing emphasis on renewable energy, water energy continues to evolve, with innovations aimed at minimizing environmental impacts and enhancing efficiency. Efforts are also being made to improve small-scale hydropower systems and explore new technologies for harnessing wave and tidal energy. Indeed, I believe that scientific research in water energy continues to evolve, focusing on improving technology, mitigating environmental impacts, and optimizing resource management. The future of water energy looks promising as innovations emerge, making it an integral part of the global transition to renewable energy sources. MASOOD 😊

What the … is the BIPED EU project about? What do we know about? Energy production is one side of an energy district (green line in the mockup graph below). And that district's energy consumption is on the other side (the other colors in the graph 😊 ). The district is defined as a positive energy district when it produces more energy than it consumes. That's clear, but can we achieve energy positivity by considering traffic energy consumption? And if so, can we achieve it for the whole day? Or at least for specific day hours? Concerning renewable energy sources? Answering such questions seems to be the role of Geomatics, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Západočeská univerzita v Plzni (ZČU), RoadTwin and InnoConnect, ... and I believe that other partners as well in BIPED EU.
