A small step for us, but a giant Leap to Zero for the sustainable construction community! This week, Rijkswaterstaat hosted the second International Conference on Emission Free Construction Sites ‘Leap to Zero’. This network of public infrastructure owners from Europe and abroad convened with OEMs, contractors, international organizations and other stakeholders to discuss the transition towards a zero emission future in the construction sector at an international level. It was a real pleasure to organise an event with so many inspiring people committed to the goal of a net zero construction sector! My key takeaways of the conference are: - Transitions can go surprisingly fast. We have seen the examples, for instance in the city bus industry. - Don’t be disappointed if the final goal is not reached immediately. We are doing this step by step. - Collaboration across the value chain (contractors, manufacturers, infrastructure owners and policy makers) is crucial to set the wheels of change in motion. - Demand in projects is essential to offer the market a reliable, stable growth path. - In many countries, national regulation that brings clarity for the sector is a goal for the long term. To keep stakeholders motivated, short term focus should be on the zero emission ambitions of local or regional authorities. - Standardisation of zero emission equipment will significantly improve the operation of electric machinery. Four global manufacturers agreed to start discussions on common efforts to reach standardisation. I’m also happy to share that a small working group has been set up to work on a governance model for the Leap to Zero-network to ensure future activities and events of the network. International cooperation and information exchange is the key to a successful transition. Great things are ahead of us! We hope to see each other soon next year! I’d like to thank Alexander Neumann, Hans Bekkers, Tobias van Oord, Tobias Stöcker, Dominique CHEVILLARD, Philip Mortensen, Arjan Walinga, Nikki Nicolai, Han Rekers, Gerard van der Veer, Patrick Schothuis, Sachio Kunisawa (and her colleagues from Komatsu), Marieke Donkervoort and Arjen Ros for sharing their inspiring contributions. Special thanks to Anky van Wijchen, Arjen van den Ouden and Gerben van den Berg for organising the conference field trip to Dike Reinforcement Tiel-Waardenburg and Charging Station Watthub. #Leaptozero #sustainability #ZEconstruction

Thank you very much for the opportunity to discuss with all entrepreneurs !
Thank you for the great and inspiring event! :)
Thanks to Dik and Rijkswaterstaat for this interesting, inspiring and fruitful event which was much more than just another conference where one listens passively to presentations. I think we truly set steps forwards all together and am looking forward to set further steps to zero.
