The V&A East Storehouse, set to open to the public in May 2025, was featured in the Financial Times, in an article by Jan Dalley who writes, "[...] V&A’s Storehouse has a radical vision. Whether you call it working storage, open-access warehousing or redesigned display, according to Tim Reeve, deputy director and chief operating officer of the V&A, it 'sets a new paradigm for access to national collections.' The idea is a simple one: to make the greatest possible number of the museum’s 2.8mn objects available for the public to savour." To read the full article, visit https://lnkd.in/edMZakWg. The piece also appears in the January 18th print issue under the title "Behind the scenes at the museum."

The Museum of Craft and Design has opened a new IMLS-funded exhibit! RugLife explores the history of rugmaking, and feature works by 14 contemporary artists from nine countries. As part of the project, the museum commissioned three tactile pieces and an audio tour to accompany the exhibit. Building upon two previous IMLS projects, the museum will offer its signature MakeArt programming to include eight multilingual projects, over 100 hands-on programs, and over 4,000 free MakeArt Kits. The museum will also create a replicable model of its MakeArt programming to share with participating museums. RugLife will be on view at the Museum of Craft and Design until April 20, 2025. It will then travel to the Weatherspoon Art Museum at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the Weisman Art Museum at The University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and The Pratt Manhattan Gallery at the Pratt Institute in New York City through Spring 2026. Scotland's first fully digital museum. The scheme will see the Leith Custom House in Edinburgh, previously used as a store for the National Museum of Scotland, turned into a hybrid cultural space. There will be community-creative studios, commercial and retail opportunities, and the fully digital gallery spaces on the first floor. The galleries will display both community-created artworks and historical items from Leith's archives. This sounds like an exciting initiative and mixed-use spaces definitely helps so many cultural spaces adapt and survive. Digital re-imagining and presenting of archive materials can help audiences enjoy the materials in new, exciting and more accessible ways, and there are many materials that lend themselves to multimedia displays. There is still something though, in relation to the historical items from the archive, about the intangible power of seeing the actual object yourself as a visitor that is the USP of museums. It will be interesting and exciting to see how these plans develop. https://lnkd.in/eX_jgsVk

In all my days as a travel writer, I've never seen anything more architecturally stunning than Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. It was positively mesmerizing. Even more impressive? The art itself. You name an iconic American artist and they're likely represented inside these hallowed halls. Read more in my latest My Fave Places travel blog. #travel #business
