Today I felt stuck, in a bit if a bind, I kept procrastinating over the tasks ahead before the long weekend. So I decided to take a break. In my bookmarks I had a few ted talks that I've been meaning to get to, so I though a good time as any. So I picked "Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator," by Tim Urban - fitting. Here are five key points that I found helpful. 1. Instant Gratification Monkey: Tim explains how the "Instant Gratification Monkey" in our brains favors immediate pleasure over long-term tasks, leading to procrastination. 2. Rational Decision-Maker vs. Panic Monster: He contrasts the "Rational Decision-Maker," who plans and aims for long-term goals, with the "Panic Monster," which only appears when a deadline is imminent, forcing us to take action - I'm a panic monster. 3. Deadlines and Panic: Procrastination with deadlines leads to last-minute rushes but generally ensures tasks are completed. Without deadlines, however, important tasks can be perpetually delayed. Like today for me. 4. Life Calendar: he introduces the "Life Calendar," a visual tool that shows the limited number of weeks in an average lifespan, emphasizing the importance of not delaying important tasks. 5. Call to Action: he calls you to confront our procrastination habits, recognizing the detrimental role of the "Instant Gratification Monkey" and taking proactive steps to manage our time better. Tim Urban offers a funny yet insightful look into the mechanics of procrastination and provides a wake-up call to take control of our productivity. Have a watch of it. Now back to work #procrastination #lifeworkbalance #calltoaction #panicmonster

🚀 Procrastination Chronicles: A 20-Minute Victory! 🚀 Yesterday, I finally tackled a chore I had been putting off for 4 months. Guess what? It only took me 20 minutes. Did I learn anything? Not really. But here’s what I do know about dealing with procrastination: The 5-Minute Rule: Tell yourself you’ll work on the task for just 5 minutes. Often, you’ll end up finishing it because starting is the hardest part! Break It Down: Divide the task into smaller, manageable chunks. It’s less overwhelming and easier to start. Reward Yourself: Plan a small reward for completing the task. Whether it’s a treat, a break, or some relaxation time, having something to look forward to can be motivating. Accountability Partner: Share your goal with a friend or colleague who can check in on your progress. A little external pressure can do wonders! Perfect Isn’t the Goal: Remember, done is better than perfect. Don’t let the pursuit of perfection keep you from starting. Time Blocking: Schedule a specific time in your calendar for the task. Treat it like an important meeting with yourself. Environment Matters: Create a conducive environment for productivity. Clear your workspace, eliminate distractions, and get in the zone.
