Thank goodness its Sunday!! How many of you have been off with the kids this half term? Have you been at home? Have you been away or just day/s out? The highlight of our half term was baking Dinosaur cupcakes (even though all they eat is the buttercream on top) but it was great to teach them that this is how you bake a cake 🥰 Now, time to get the little darlings bathed, early night and a well deserved drink (for me) YOU SURVIVED! I don't know why but I am always fascinated by this sea creature Starfish. It is also known as sea stars, have several unique characteristics: 1. Body shape: Their distinctive star-shaped body, typically with five arms, allows them to move and maneuver in tight spaces. 2. Regeneration: Starfish can regrow lost arms, and in some cases, even regenerate an entire new starfish from a single arm. 3. Water vascular system: They use a network of fluid-filled vessels to move and feed, rather than a traditional circulatory system. 4. No brain: Starfish do not have a centralized brain, but rather a decentralized nervous system with nerve cells spread throughout their body. 5. Unique feeding: Using their powerful suckers, they pry open shells and release their stomach to digest prey externally. 6. Diversity: With over 2,000 species, starfish exhibit a wide range of colors, shapes, and sizes. 7. Jul 13 was Cow Appreciation Day, so we can't let that go by without celebrating the FINtastic COWFISH! What is a Cowfish? Cowfish are a type of boxfish known for their distinctive horns protruding from their heads, resembling a cow. They belong to the family Ostraciidae and are found in the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific region. 🌈 Vibrant Colours: Cowfish come in a variety of colours, from bright yellows and blues to spotted patterns. 🛡️ Natural Armor: These fish have a hard, box-like shell made of fused scales, providing protection against predators. Their tough exterior is one of their most unique features. 💨 Toxin Defense: When threatened, some cowfish can release a toxin called ostracitoxin, which deters predators. The toxin can lead to paralysis and death in small organisms. 🌬️ Jet Propulsion: Cowfish swim using a method called "ostraciform locomotion," which involves undulating their dorsal and anal fins while their body remains rigid. This gives them a gliding, hovering appearance. 🧠 Curious and Intelligent: Cowfish are known for their inquisitive nature. They often approach divers and are quick to explore their surroundings, showcasing their curious personalities. Did you know that the mantis shrimp has one of the most complex visual systems in the animal kingdom? These fascinating marine creatures possess eyes that can see polarized light and an extensive range of colors, far beyond human capability. Mantis shrimp have 16 types of color-receptive cones compared to the three that humans have. This allows them to detect ten times more color than humans, including ultraviolet light. Their eyes can also move independently, providing them with a remarkable field of vision. In addition to their extraordinary eyesight, mantis shrimp are known for their powerful claws, which they use to hunt prey. These claws can strike with the speed of a bullet and with such force that they can break glass aquarium walls. This powerful strike is used to stun or kill prey, making mantis shrimp formidable predators. The reason barnacles grow on whale bodies is simple: these small, sticky crustaceans, related to crabs, lobsters, and shrimps, live on the whale to find a stable place to live, a free ride, and plenty of food. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀? Most likely, they evolved to breed during whales' breeding seasons when the whales move slowly in warm, shallow waters. If you haven’t tried plant-chicken, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how delicious it is. Not only does vegan chicken taste great, it has plenty of protein, fiber (which is a good thing when the significant majority of Americans are suffering constipation from a deficiency of fiber in their diet). Vegan chicken has no cholesterol, no likelihood of the 500-600 toxic, chemical, contaminants/contagions typical in flesh taken from animals, no intended violence towards chickens, significantly less fresh water pollution or waste, significantly less negative environmental impact. There’s really no good reason for humanity in 2024 to continue unnecessarily killing chickens. Be part of the solution to coping with the fact that 8 billlion nonvegan humans are driving mass global extinction and ecological collapse from our ego to do what we want. Take control of your health. Love life. Live vegan.

Amazing Nature: How does a heron hunts rodents? This is one of the most intriguing thing I’ve seen in a very long time... Herons are opportunistic eaters, so while fish are their main course, they won't turn down a tasty rodent snack if the chance arises. Here's how they might catch one: 1) Patience and Stealth: Herons are masters of disguise. They can stand very still for long periods, waiting for prey to wander by. Their long legs help them wade silently through shallow water or tall grass, keeping their movements hidden. 2) Sharp Eyes and Beak: Herons have excellent eyesight, allowing them to spot even the slightest movement. Their long, sharp beaks are perfect for spearing unsuspecting prey. 3) The Strike: Once a heron spots a rodent, it lunges quickly with its sharp beak to snatch the prey. Their long necks help them reach into burrows or under vegetation where rodents might be hiding. Here's a caveat: While herons can catch rodents, they aren't a major part of their diet.
