Are you putting your trust in Google search results to find the right marketing agency for your Travel Business? BEWARE. There's a troubling trend in the travel marketing space that could have serious implications for the travel industry. I recently stumbled upon a digital marketing agency that holds a prominent position on Google's first page for the keyword "travel marketing agency". The problem? They don't even specialize in travel marketing. How did they get on the first page of Google then, you may wonder? Well, they created lengthy pages filled with generic content about digital marketing and sprinkled with keywords specific to various industries, including travel. That's it. So much for Google's smart algorithm, right? (Us marketers know how smart it really is). Funny thing is they forgot the change the keyword 'real estate' to 'travel' in some places on this page (Highlighted in the image. Yes, that's an actual screenshot from their travel industry page!). Now you may say "Okay, so it's just one agency using such deceitful tactics. What's the big deal?" Truth is, this agency is not alone. Many others are employing similar tactics, gaming the algorithm, leading unsuspecting businesses to believe they possess expertise in niches they don't specialize in. In fact, most pages that rank on page 1 for travel marketing agency related searches belong to generic agencies. They have pages targeting real estate, SaaS, healthcare, finance etc, each claiming expertise in those areas despite lacking the depth of knowledge and experience required to truly excel. So, if you're a travel business, why does this matter to you? As passionate professionals in the travel industry, your success hinges on partnering with specialist marketing professionals that understand the unique nuances, challenges, and opportunities within the tourism sector. Choosing a marketing partner based solely on search engine rankings is risky, as it may lead you down a path with a partner ill-equipped to deliver the expertise, insights and results your business deserves. So if you're looking for a travel marketing partner, look beyond search engine rankings. When I’m talking to Propellic - Travel Marketing clients, there’s a theme which often comes up that I don’t understand: a reluctance to test new marketing strategies.
